Aiden slouched in his seat on the school bus, staring out the window with a bored expression. The idea of spending an entire day at an ancient Egyptian dig site didn't exactly thrill him. Honestly, if teachers thought that students enjoyed listening to them ramble about history, then they were dead wrong. He would have rather be in his own room, watching a movie while tinkering with his latest creation.

Aiden watched as the jocks at the front of the bus, flexed their muscles. And the girls across from them giggling and sending flirty glances and smiles across to them. Aiden scoffed and went back to staring outside the window, fidgeting with the small piece of a circuit in his pocket.

It was a nervous practice he had picked up from when he was little. His dad always had circuits on his desk, so when he was little he would take them into his room and pretend he was building a spaceship to Mars, or something. From then on, he always had a small circuit in his pocket or bag.

As the bus pulled up to the dig site, Aiden reluctantly followed his classmates off the bus. The hot sun beat down on them as they made their way towards the main excavation area. Their teacher, Mr. Thompson, was already explaining the significance of the site, but Aiden's mind was elsewhere.

"Stay close, everyone," Mr. Thompson called out, leading the group towards the main excavation area.

They entered the tomb, Mr. Thompson leading the group down the path. Aiden held back a groan, as he wondered if it was too late to try and make a run for it. The group followed Mr. Thompson down the corridor of the tomb, as he pointed out hieroglyphs along the walls. Aiden walked at the back of the group, his mind wandering in circles of boredom. As the group continued, a small glint of light caught Aiden's eye. Aiden's head shot up in curiosity, usually he would have just walked past, but he somewhat felt almost drawn to the light. It was almost like a strange warm feeling, as if he had just ate a hundred of his mums cinnamon apple cakes.

Aiden paused, and scanned the small path. To his left he spotted a hieroglyph of a man with the head of what looked like a bird. Aiden looked again, scarcely remembering on of Mr. Thompsons lecture on the Egyptian god. Aiden recognised the birdman as Ra. The sun god. Above the hieroglyph of Ra was a small glowing sun. Unconsciously, Aiden reached out to touch it. As he did, the small sun glowed brighter, almost to the point where he felt like he was staring down the sun. His eyes watered as he attempted to block his eyes from the light.

Slowly, the brightness dimed and Aiden felt something cold and heavy drop into his hand. Aiden opened his eyes to see a small golden amulet shaped like an eye, with intricate hieroglyphs etched around its edges. The eye itself has a small, glowing green gemstone at its centre. Aiden's own eyes widened as he looked around frantically, wondering if his classmates had noticed anything.

Strangely enough, no one had even noticed that he had an artifact from the tomb. Aiden scanned over the fastened the ancient amulet around her neck, feeling its cool weight settle against his skin as a surge of power coursed through his veins. The amulet gave a faint glow and a cold wind blew in his ears. He felt an uneasy cold feeling wash over him, like he was being dunked head first into a ice bath. A stone voice ran through his head, Aiden Carter, you have been chosen as one of the next guardians of Elysium. You bare the Eye of Ra, come forth from the darkness, heir of Ra, sun god, and bring the light.'

Aiden's eyes widened in disbelief, his heart pounding as the revelation sank in— a heir of Ra? the mighty sun god. This had to be someone's idea of a joke. But a deep pull in his gut told him that it wasn't. Aiden tucked the amulet under his shirt and then it hit. The chatter of his classmates. Mr. Thompson. But not just them, a thousand voices seemed to be shouting at Aiden all at once. Aiden winced and covered his ears as the voices spoke loudly 'We are the spirits of this tomb,' The voices seemed to echo, "Come forth from the darkness, heir of Ra, and bring the light' . Aiden winced as the spirits seemed to get louder, their voices shouting all at once, all saying the same thing. The shouting continued, getting louder and louder.
