Suddenly there was absolute silence...

It was a cold, stormy night. The thunder was grumbling in a gruesome voice, whilst the wind wailed in agony. The rain was pouring down like a waterfall onto the windowsill. As usual I was alone-scared. I get paranoid at times like these. All these cranky noises that I hear in the house will be the death of me.

But, this time it feels different, it feels real. I can feel the shivers down my spine, the sweat trickling along my face like the heavy rain outside. It felt bad, it was going to be very, very bad this time. That's when I decided to call my best friend to come over. Some time later, there was a knock on the door, whilst the lightning struck at the same time,  startling me. I hoped that it was my best friend at the door, I couldn't go through this night alone.

A sense of relief overcame me, when I saw her at the door. We sat for a while, and were talking about school, I turned my head away from my friend, for a second. When I turned back, she was gone and suddenly there was absolute silence...

The panic started kicking in once I realised that my friend had really disappeared, this was not some kind of prank. While I was thinking about that, I heard the stair groaning as if someone was walking on them, I quickly looked around my room, to see if I could find any weapon, I saw the bat in the corner of my room, and I quickly ran to it. Slowly, I made my way to the door, and carefully opening it so that I could make my escape to the front door. I would rather take my chances outside in the rain, than in this creepy house. I tiptoed out of my room and across the hall, to the head of the stairs. "Fresh blood..", "delicious sacrifice..". These were words I was suddenly hearing around me. "mmh, I can smell the fear...", "I can almost taste it...".

I gulped nervously and tried to not show my fear, but I was sweating buckets. I decided to make a run for it. By the time I made it to the food of the stairs, I heard a loud thump, like someone or something heavy was running towards me. I felt a tug on my arm, and stilled before I was about to scream. It was my best friend, her clothes were in shreds and she had some dried blood on her arms. She motioned for me to follow her, I quietly followed her, we reached the door of the basement, it was already opened.

What i wasn't waiting for was my best friend pushing me down the stairs of the basement. I tumble along the stairs and heard the door shut and lock. "I've done what you asked, can I go now?". That was the voice of my best friend, giving me up to be a sacrifice to whatever was in the house. I did not have time to be in shock or heartbroken, because i heard movement in the basement there and there. Something was in here with me.

I remembered the words my mom told me. "If God is with you, who can be against you?" I suddenly felt angry, the devil was disrespecting me in my own home, how dare he. I started praying and calling the name of Jesus, whatever was in here with me, was getting closer to me, getting agitated. It threw me across the room, i didn't stop, it started choking me, I still didn't stop. Even as I could feel the leave my lungs I didn't. I started screaming the name of Jesus. When it let me go, I let out one powerful scream and I lost consciousness.

I started hearing a beeping sound of a machine, and slowly started opening my eyes and saw lights above my head. "Am I dead? Is this heaven?" Such questions filled my head. My questions were answered when a man in a lab coat came to check on me. I was in the hospital. I was in a week-long coma. My mother had found me at the top of the basement stairs, all battered and bruised. She then rushed me to the hospital. My mom came to my room when she was told that I was awake.

I told my mom what happened and there and then we decided a fresh start is what we needed.
