Chapter two: Memories (somewhat angst)

It was all a dream... well.. memories of the past. You looked next to you, seeing Neuvillette beside you, sleeping, with his body turned away from you. "Why are things like this now?.. why can't we go back to the way we were?.. why can't we love like back then?.." you thought to yourself as you slowly got out of bed. Sure you were now married to Neuvillette, but what's marriage without any love in it? Why get in a relationship when there's no warmth in it?

You went into the kitchen making yours and his coffee for the morning before brushing your teeth and other hygiene stuff you would do in the morning.

You came out of the bathroom, and into the bedroom only to find Neuvillette not on the bed. Huh? You looked in the kitchen, seeing Neuvillette sipping on his coffee and reading the morning news of Fontaine. "Good morning.." you quietly said  to him as you grabbed your coffee from the countertop and started sipping. Neuvillette didn't respond, flipping the newspaper to the next page.

As you continued drinking your coffee, your mind wandered onto yesterday's argument with Neuvillette.

"Mon Cheri, I cannot simply give you affection anytime you want! I am a busy man. You know that. So don't pester me with your needs!" Neuvillette said harshly, his words coming out more hasher than he had originally intended. "I know you're busy Neuvi.. but that isn't an excuse to ignoring me.." you replied, not raising your voice at all. "I am not ignoring you! I'm simply not engaging conversation! Those are two different things Y/N." he yelled, his voice noticeably getting more harsher and louder. "Y/N?.. he never calls me that anymore.." you thought to yourself. Neuvillette, without finishing this argument he himself started, grabbed his briefcase and left for work, slamming the door shut. "I just wanted a hug.." you whispered to yourself, retreating into your room as you quietly cried yourself into a nap.

Later that night, he came home, giving you the silent treatment instead of trying to resolve the issue. You felt as if your relationship didn't mean anything to him.

You snapped out of your thoughts as Neuvillette abruptly left the table, leaving you alone.

"Wait!" you suddenly called out, making him stop in his tracks. Neuvillette didn't turn around, just waiting for you to finish your sentence. "I'm sorry- I shouldn't have asked you yesterday when I knew you were busy.. I just-" "It's fine." Neuvillette mumbled as he cut you off. Based on the tone of his voice, it wasn't really fine but you decided that it was better not to argue with him.

You reluctantly nodded, and as always, went to help him get ready to for work.

As Neuvillette left the house, you sat on the couch, deep in thought.

How did your relationship become into this? These days, you guys often fought, but it was always you apologizing afterwards, even if Neuvillette was in the wrong. Sometimes, you couldn't help but miss when you were his assistant. He opened up to you, letting himself be vulnerable. But now, he rarely talked to you, only doing so when he needed something or had to tell you he's working late again.

It was honestly kind of annoying. He never spent time with you anymore, and when he did, he would often get annoyed quickly because apparently you were too "needy." You honestly didn't even understand what went on in that man's mind. And you knew he was stressed, who wouldn't be if they were the ludex of Fontaine. It was a big duty. You knew it. But even if then it wasn't wrong of you to ask for affection, right?

Right?

You sighed to yourself, not wanting to get another headache from merely trying to figure what the hell you could do to maybe fix your relationship. Was it you? Were you lacking of something? Were you just not made for love? Or was it Neuvillette? Either way you knew that from here on out your marriage would be would be anything but happy.
