It had been three days since our conversation, and with each passing day, I felt a growing sense of happiness. I started to believe that maybe, just maybe, God had something good in store for me. During these days, we had a few brief conversations. Though short, they reassured me that she thought about me just as I thought about her.
When I told my friends about the invitation to Paris, they were happy for me, though visibly surprised. They hadn't expected me to feel anything for anyone, and here I was, falling for someone whose name was practically all I knew about her.
My flight was departing in about two and a half hours. Mohamed had kindly offered to drive me to the airport. I would only be in Paris for three days, arriving Friday morning and leaving Sunday night. Even though it was only seven in the morning, I felt energized.
"We're here," Mohamed said, stopping the car in front of the airport. He looked at me, patting my shoulder. "I hope you have a great time. You deserve it after everything you've been through." I gave him a small smile, got out of the car, and retrieved my suitcase from the trunk. After giving Mohamed a hug, I watched him drive away.
After waiting and checking in, it was finally time to depart. I had been looking forward to this moment, and now it was here. I settled into my window seat, leaned back, and relaxed. Lost in thought as I gazed out the window, I was interrupted by my phone buzzing.
Instagram message from @NailaNadiyah:
"Did your flight depart already? I'll be in front of the airport at 12:15. Your flight should have arrived by then. If not, I'll wait outside. xx"
To @NailaNadiyah: "It should depart any minute now. I will text you when I arrive."
From @NailaNadiyah: "Great! See you then."
I put on my headset and listened to some music, trying to leave all my worries and thoughts behind in Milan. As soon as the plane took off, I focused solely on her and the adventure ahead.
The three-hour flight went smoothly. I had two elderly passengers next to me who slept the entire time. Once I arrived at Paris Airport, I sent her a message.
To @NailaNadiyah: "Arrived, currently waiting for my suitcase."
From @NailaNadiyah: "Take your time, I am in front of the airport."
I liked her message and focused on the luggage carousel. It didn't take long for my suitcase to appear, and I immediately headed out.
Looking around at the sea of cars, I wasn't sure which one was hers until I saw her waving and walking toward me.
She looked amazing, and I couldn't help but smile. I thought she looked beautiful at night, but in daylight, she was even more stunning.
"Zaccaria, I see you arrived safely," she said, hugging me. "Of course, thanks to you," I replied, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
