A soft hum of air drifted in from the open window, filling the room with a gentle breeze. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, creating a serene calm. Yet, despite the peacefulness, there was a noticable sense of disconnection —a feeling of being lost with no clear direction.
“Maya, your coffee!” Camilla’s voice cut through the zone, pulling Maya back to reality.
“I… huh… thank you” Maya murmured, her gaze unfocused as she accepted the cup.
Camilla glances at Maya’s phone, which had been ringing nonstop for what felt like an eternity. With a deep sigh, she sat down in front of Maya on the bed, her expression serious.
“How long are you going to ignore him?” she asked, her tone both concerned and exasperated.
“Huh? I… ignore w—who?” Maya’s response was confused, her voice carrying an oddly distant tone.
“Maya, What is happening with you? Why are you acting like this since we came back from university yesterday?” Camilla pressed, her frustration clear in her tone.
“I... um... I don't know” Maya replied softly, her gaze fixed on the cup of coffee in her hands.“ I can't seem to understand what's going on.”
Camilla looked at Maya with a soft gaze. “You're thinking about the university's incident again, aren’t you?”
Maya looked up, her eyes troubled. “Denver had a high fever at that time, but he still fought like a madman. It’s really frightening, Camilla... D–denver is just so scary..”
Camilla reached out and gently touched Maya’s hand. “I know it’s unsettling. Denver’s intensity can be overwhelming, especially since he’s usually so cheerful. It was surprising for me too to see him that angry.”
Maya’s eyes glistened in the dim light. “W-will he hurt me too, Camilla?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Camilla’s heart ached at the sight of Maya’s fear. Without hesitation, she pulled Maya into a tight embrace. “He fought for you, Maya! Why are you thinking like that?” she said softly, her voice filled with concern.
Maya hesitate a bit then clung to Camilla, “I... I don’t know. I keep worrying about it. Everything feels so uncertain right now.” her voice trembling.“ I don’t feel the same comfort and safety around Denver after the incident. The thought of him hurting me haunts me all the time.”
“Why do you think Denver would hurt you?” Camilla asked, gently placing a hand on Maya’s face. “He would rather die than even think of hurting you.”
“Rather di— what do you mean?” Maya asked, her voice filled with confusion.
Camilla sighed softly.“ Remember the day after the incident? There was that meeting called by Mr. Russo.”
“Y-yes, the meeting between Denver, Antonio, and Mr. Russo” Maya replied, nodding her head in acknowledgment
Camilla continued, “After the meeting, Denver came to me, clearly upset that you weren’t speaking to him. He noticed the fear in your eyes whenever he was around and he was convinced you might think he would hurt you too. He was so serious about it that he said he would rather die than ever think of harming you”
Maya’s eyes widened with surprise “I didn’t realize he felt that way,”she replied “I guess I just... didn’t know how to handle everything that happened.. She looked up at Camilla, her expression a mix of regret and uncertainty. “What should I do now?”
