Watch the Time

The research I did for this is freaking me out-

My newest timepiece sits on the counter in front of me. The hour hand refuses to work properly, springing around the others at rapid speeds. Turning the crown does nothing to help and I've taken the watch apart too many times to count.

With a last tick the watch stops again. I begin to remove the strap when it suddenly vibrates. I see a flash before my vision goes dark.

(Spooky "magic"🤦🏻‍♀️)

~+~

I awake on the ground, watch still in hand. My surroundings seem familiar, yet at the same time unknown. My little shop in France has vanished, the neighboring stores seemingly gone too, replaced with a decaying town. The houses are collapsing at the seams, roofs caving in. Trees and any greenery are scarcely located around a piece of wood, an object the sickly looking children seem to have claimed. The adults don't look much better.

Aimlessly walking around wither their sunken eyes and strange lumps, they look like zombies. Those lumps...

I remember the research I did on the Black Death a couple years ago. The Plague had caused over 50,000 deaths, with symptoms like fatigue, nausea, and chills.

It dawns on me that the area around me is familiar because it's where I live. Only it's from over 600 years before.

The disease ridden people started to notice me. I reach in my back pocket for the watch, realizing I have no idea if I can even get back home.

I turn the crown backwards, and with a flash, I lose consiousness.

~ seven magical + weeks later ~

I struggle to grasp the remote in my fingers, every slight movement hurting. I glare at the lump that is taking over my stomach.

When I manage to turn the news on, I gasp.

676 years later, the Bubonic Plague is claiming France once again. And it's my fault.

Welp. I love the plot I just feel I could've written it better-
