2| growing up and driftmark

114 A.C
Daena smiled as she watched her sisters play along the shores of their home. The giggles of her younger sisters made her calm as she watched them play. The twins ran up and down the shore chasing each other with seaweed. A loud grunt came from Icarus who was curled around his rider. "Lykiri Icarus." The dragon's large head came to rest on the sand nudging her.

"Sister! We wish to watch you ride Icarus!" Rhaena spoke running up to her older sister and her dragon. "One fly shouldn't hurt. Sit down and don't move I won't fly far just above the water so you both can see." Icarus laid his wing out letting his rider climb up and mount the dragon's saddle upon his back.

"One ride Icarus let ride with the sun to our back. Sōvēs." The long strides along the hill and shores of the beach Icarus took off into the sky. Gold wings take up slicing through the air like blades. My grip on the reigns loosened as I grew comfortable. "Embrot." Spreading open his large wings he glided down just inches above the water dragging a claw through the surface just before pulling up. "Dracarys!" The orangish flame came out his mouth and I heard the squeals from down below as I rode there the fire.

"Thank you, Icarus it is time you rest." Daena smiled as she looked over down at the shore where her sisters now stood with her father. "Tegot." A grunt left the large but still growing dragon as descended from the sky landing a few meters away from her family out of safety.

"Father." She nodded at him and he nodded back once I got closer to them. "The bond between you and Icarus is strong." She smirked. "He is my friend I trust him and I believe he trusts me." She explained as her sister almost knocked her down.

"Woah I wish I could ride moondancer but she's not big enough yet!"

"I wish I had a dragon. It is not fair."

Daena had bent down taking both her sisters' hands in hers. "One day you will be able to ride Moondancer Baela and you will be mighty. Rhaena your egg will or will not hatch this happens often. You can set out to claim a dragon but when it's your time to claim a dragon you will know. Dragons are not passed down and some dragons claim their riders on their own." She explained as Rhaena nodded.

"How will I know?" She asked looking over at Icarus. "You just will. Now come on I'm sure we can snatch some cake from the kitchens if we are sneaky enough." A smile broke out on Rhaena and Baela's face as they ran off.

"They do adore you Daena. You handled Rhaena well." I smiled and looked at my father as we walked back to the castle. "As do I adore them. I will always handle them with care...they are my sisters."

Six years had passed in pentos the girls were excited with their new sibling on the way who they thought was a boy. They had picked an egg for their sibling when they went with their father.

The twins were sleeping as Daena wandered the halls. The nightgown her maids dressed her in dragging along the floors. Her sisters were asleep as they waited on their sibling. Their mother's labors were long and hard. Not a word from Father and the maesters made matters worse.

So many thoughts about what could be wrong ran through her head. The screaming that could be heard from her mother's birthing chambers ceased as she stopped by the entrance of the castle seeing the figure of her mother in her bloody dress hobbling over towards Vhagar.

"Mother!" Daena broke into a run catching up with her mother who now sat on her knees in front of her dragon. The faint words 'dracays' could be heard as she got a little closer and a loud grunt from Vhagar as she finally opened her mouth setting her mother on flames. A dragon's death. The flames were warm and welcoming as she stood there clothes burning the flames didn't phase the girl who stared at what was left of her mother.
