Jay runs across the tourney field, clutching a withered envelope.

"Hey guys!" he calls to his friends Ben, Mal, Carlos, and Evie, "Guess what I just dug up!"

"A cleaner hat?" Mal says. Everyone thinks she's joking, but she's not. She's still mad that the school had to go on lockdown during her art class last week since they though the hat was a biohazard.

"No, you silly, silly, lizard girl. A letter! From a time capsule!" replies Jay.

"Ooh! Let me see!" says Ben. "I'm king!"

Mal gives a tired smile. "No, Ben," she boops him on the nose, "You don't know how to read!" She takes the letter from Jay and starts reading.

Dear future,
My name is Princess Laurlee. I come from the Kingdom of Lounadale, and I have just been invited to attend Pre-Merlin Academy. As a writer, I thought, what could be a better story than this! Dozens of kingdoms, coming together for the first time. I guess all of our parents signed a treaty or something, but that's a story for another day.
Anyway, in these pages I am going to record everything that happens at this new school. Maybe one day our descendants will all gather together and read it. Who knows!

All of the VK's and Ben look at each other.

All of us move in tomorrow. I have no idea who else is going to this school, since my kingdom is so far away from the others. But I do know who my roommate is! Her name is Malnourishment, and we're going to be best friends!

"Hey! That's my grandma!" says Mal, "But I don't have any idea who Laurlee is. I guess my grandma was too cool for her."

"Wait a minute, who's Malnourishment?" asks Jay. He hadn't been paying attention. Mal rolls her eyes.

"That's my grandma, idiot. Pay attention," Mal says.

Evie pops in for the first time. She had just been listening silently, since talking causes wrinkles.

"Hey, M, why don't you write a note in there or something, so everyone else who reads this knows who everyone is." She suggests. Was the comment worth the wrinkles though?

"Good idea," says Mal. She scribbles in the book with a spare sharpie that she was graffitiing with mere minutes ago.

Her name is Malnourishment (Mal's Grandma), and we're going to be best friends!
I am excited for this adventure, since all I can do at home is learn how to be queen. Maybe with a better education at Pre-Merlin Academy, I can become something else. Hopefully, I can improve my writing skills, and have a chance at becoming a professional writer.
I better finish packing before tomorrow, then, if I want to uphold my ambitions.
But before I go, I promise that I will write down everything exactly as it happened. Everything about the other students, classes, and teachers will be perfectly accurate.
Sincerely, Princess Laurlee

Mal flips the page over, "That's all it says."

"Don't you worry your little lizard brain!" Jay says. Mal rolls her eyes. "There's more in the time capsule! Follow me!"

The five of them hop up, and Jay, Carlos, and Ben start running across the field. Mal and Evie walk behind them.

"So who do you think this 'Laurlee' person is?" Evie asks.

Mal shrugs coolly, "Maybe she became a writer, and never had kids."

Evie thinks about it, "Yeah, but wouldn't we have at least heard of the kingdom?"

"I mean, she said it was far. I had never even heard about Wonderland until last month," Mal suggests.

The two of them make it to where Jay, Carlos, and Ben are furiously digging up the time capsule with their bare hands. They finally get it loose, and hoist up a giant metal box.

"This is almost entirely full of more letters!" Carlos says, and then he squeals when the box almost crushes him.

Jay laughs and picks the box up more, "You have a lot of reading to do, Mal!"

They drop the box at Mal's feet, and she can see that they were right, it's almost full of paper. But there's also some items, like dresses, or hand mirrors. Maybe they're important to the story.

Mal plucks the next page from the box. "Well," she says, sitting down on a tree stump, "We better get started!"
