My name is Alex Carter, and this is the day that changed everything I knew about my life.
I was just a 16-year-old kid, skateboarding through the bustling city of Luminara. The city was alive with colorful neon lights, towering futuristic buildings, and technology that had overtaken every corner. But I was never one to follow the crowd. I had always been a bit of a rebel, preferring the outskirts of the city, where mysteries were said to lurk in every shadow.
As I weaved through traffic, cars honking in frustration, "Pump It" by The Black Eyed Peas blared through my earbuds, fueling my adrenaline. Finally, I reached my destination: a mysterious, old museum. "So, this is where all the weird rumors are coming from, huh?" I muttered to myself, scoffing at the thought. But as I turned to leave, a strange glow caught my eye from within the building. "What the hell was that?" I wondered, unable to resist the urge to find out.
Sneaking into the museum, flashlight in hand, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. It was too easy to get in, almost like I was meant to be there. I shone my flashlight around, illuminating old guns, knight armor, and planets hanging from the ceiling. Suddenly, I heard a voice crackle over a radio: "No, sir, nothing tonight." My heart raced—security was here.
I moved quickly, trying to avoid detection, but tripped over the foot of a knight's armor, grabbing onto an axe to steady myself. The loud scratch echoed through the museum, and the guard's voice followed. "What was that sound? Hey, kid, stop!"
Panicking, I ducked into a crate and shut the door behind me, hoping to remain unseen. The crate was filled with strange symbols and golden artifacts, but what caught my eye was a bracelet in the center, labeled "Aether Band." It was a beautiful golden bracelet with a jade stone embedded in the middle. Despite knowing it was illegal, I couldn't resist. I put it on, and the moment I did, my mind was flooded with visions. My head felt like it was on fire as I saw creatures—no, aliens—some on fire, others angelic. I didn't have time to process it all; the security guard was getting closer.
I bolted from the crate, evading the guard as he shouted after me. Somehow, I made it back to my house in one piece.
"Alex, is that you?" my auntie called out.
"Yeah, Auntie," I replied, trying to catch my breath.
"Can you take out the trash for me?"
"Sure, Auntie," I said, still reeling from what had just happened. "And remember to text me if you're staying out all night, boy, you hear me?"
"I got it, Auntie," I laughed, trying to act normal.
As I took out the trash, I couldn't stop staring at the bracelet on my wrist. "What the hell is this?" I muttered to myself. I went back to my room and tried to take the bracelet off, but it wouldn't budge. Frustrated, I pulled harder, and suddenly, my body erupted into flames.
"AHHHHH!" I screamed, feeling intense heat as I looked in the mirror. I was a fire humanoid. "Oh, shit!" I panicked, stumbling into my desk, which immediately burst into flames. Desperate, I tried to calm myself, and slowly, the flames subsided. I transformed back into my normal self, shaken and confused. "Shit, I got school tomorrow," I groaned, collapsing onto my bed and passing out from exhaustion.
Act 2: Flames and Geometry
The next morning, I was jolted awake by my auntie throwing a shoe at me. Groggy and disoriented, I found myself in class, half-listening to Mr. Brown drone on about geometry. I couldn't focus; my mind was consumed by what had happened the night before. I doodled in my sketchbook, drawing the flaming creature I had turned into. "This makes no sense at all," I thought.
