Blurb:A high-pitched, bone-chilling scream pierced the inky darkness—my scream. I thrashed, my hands trying to find leverage on the smooth stone, my legs kicking at nothingness. Cobwebs brushed against my sweat-covered skin as the stench of burning flesh filled my nostrils, making my stomach heave.
Walls of shadow, obsidian, and bone the color of ivory confined me to this prison. How did I get here? Why was I here?
I need to get out! I thought, my mind reeling with terror. Why can't I move? How—
My eyes widened, my jaw dropping slightly as my dreamscape shifted. Flashes of crimson flames now lit my hazel eyes. Dancing and arching toward a starless sky, they climbed higher. Figures emerged from the smoke, towering over me like giants.
Fear, cold and paralyzing, washed over me as one of them, grinning wickedly, claimed me as its kill. Its charred form loomed closer, white serrated teeth glinting in the firelight. My heart pounded a frantic rhythm against my ribs.
"You will never escape us," the creature hummed, its voice dripping with menace. "Not in this life nor death... not even while you sleep, Shylow."
