Inder's eyes, once locked on Vidya's, now drifted away, his gaze clouding over like a stormy sky. His mind, a jumble of memories and emotions, struggled to stay present. The ghosts of his past, long buried, stirred once more, their whispers growing louder.
"I...I need a moment," he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper.
Vidya's expression changed from confidence to concern. "Is everything okay, sir?"
Inder nodded, his eyes fixed on some point beyond her. "Yes, just...just give me a minute."
Without waiting for a response, he turned and strode out of the room, leaving Vidya bewildered and wondering what she had done wrong. The door closed behind him with a soft click, and he leaned against it, his chest heaving as if he had run a marathon.
In the silence of the corridor, Inder's thoughts swirled around him like a vortex, pulling him down into the depths of his memories. Saru's face, etched in his mind like a work of art, smiled at him, her eyes sparkling with mischief. The pain of her departure, long suppressed, rose to the surface, threatening to engulf him.
How could Vidya look so much like her? Was it fate's cruel joke, or a sign of something more.
Inder's gaze lingered on Vidya's determined expression, his mind racing with a plan to avoid her. He couldn't bear the thought of facing her, of being reminded of Saru's ghost every time their eyes met.
"Vidya, I need you to focus on the Smith account," he said abruptly, his voice firm but polite. "It requires your undivided attention. I want you to work on it exclusively for the next few days."
Vidya's eyes narrowed slightly, but she nodded. "Of course, sir. I'll get right on it."
Inder nodded, a hint of relief washing over him. "Good. I'll be...uh...working from home for the next few days. You can reach me via email if you need anything."
Vidya's gaze lingered on him, a hint of suspicion in her eyes, but she said nothing. Inder breathed a silent sigh of relief as she turned to leave.
For the next few days, Vidya was buried under a mountain of work, just as Inder had planned. She worked tirelessly, her fingers flying across the keyboard as she tried to meet the deadlines Inder had set for her.
Meanwhile, Inder avoided the office, working from home and communicating with Vidya only through email. He knew it wasn't a permanent solution, but he needed time to process his emotions, to figure out why Vidya's resemblance to Saru affected him so deeply.
But Vidya was no fool. She sensed that something was amiss, and her determination to uncover the truth only grew stronger with each passing day. Little did Inder know, Vidya was quietly investigating the reason behind his sudden distance...
