"reina!" she flinched in surprise, removing an earphone as a response escaped her lips. "did you take out the trash!?" she winced, the reminder of a chore that she had been given two hours ago suddenly returning to her as she hurriedly clicked pause and jumped out of her chair. peering her head out of the doorway, she figured her mother was still in the bathroom, so she had a chance to sneak through and get it done before anyone would realise.
"yeah!" she lied, quietly sneaking down the stairs as she did so. she froze at the sound of a floorboard creaking under her feet, her heart pulsating against her ribs as she listened for any hint of being exposed. when the coast was clear, she sucked in a deep breath and held it tight as she continued down the stairs, avoiding any further risks to getting caught. she quietly sighed in relief, safely making it to the bottom of the staircase and finding the trash bag that had been patiently waiting for her by the front door.
her ears perked up at the sound of the shower being ran, taking it as a perfect opportunity to run out and throw out the trash whilst her mother was busy and wouldn't be able to hear the commotion. slipping on her sliders, she grabbed the bag and pulled the front door open, about to run out when she suddenly bumped into a figure.
"ow."
the two stumbled back, the trash dropping out of her hand as she lost her balance and accidentally fell on top of it. upon doing so, the pressure of her body squished the bag down and caused it to explode as all the rubbish fell out and onto their clean wooden floors. "ew―!"
"what happened!?" her mother peered over the banister, only in a towel as her eyes landed on the mess her daughter created whilst her husband stood at the doorway, staring at his little girl in confusion. "so you didn't take it out." her mother stated, hands on her hips as reina's wide eyes whipped up to the lady who stared down at her in disappointment.
damn it. she thought to herself, turning her head away from the woman in embarrassment.
"hurry up and clean up the mess!" she ordered, anger clear in her tone as her daughter hurried up to her feet. "it better be spotless by the time i've finished my shower!" she stomped back into the bathroom, grumbling a string of curse words that didn't go unheard by reina.
"you know you should always listen to your mother the first time." her father chuckled, stepping into the house and helping her out. he set his briefcase and blazer to the side, and rolled up his sleeves before crouching down beside the girl and picking up the rubbish from the ground. "go grab a new bin bag." he instructed, tapping her shoulder before pointing towards the kitchen. the girl pouted, nodding her head as she stood up and did as told, returning with a new bag to replace the broken one. "don't tell me it was that show again?" he questioned as she held the bag open and he dumped all the trash into it.
"maybe..." the girl answered, avoiding his gaze as her cheeks were painted red in embarrassment. he couldn't help but laugh at her behaviour, reaching to pat her hair. "don't touch my hair after touching trash!" she exclaimed in surprise, darting away from his touch.
"ah, right." he nodded in realisation, simply laughing at his mistake. "here, i'll take it down." he offered, reaching for the bag.
"it's fine, you just got back." reina mumbled, still clearly upset that she had messed up.
"a little trip to the recycling bin is nothing." he assured. "come on, hand it over." he held out his hand expectantly, giving the girl no choice but to oblige. "go on and finish your show before your mother comes out of the shower and grounds you from your laptop." he added, the girl lighting up at her father's kindness.
"really?"
"go, before i change my mind." reina smiled gleefully, wasting no time in snatching the opportunity as she bounced back up the stairs. knowing that her father was definitely right in the fact that her mother would steal her laptop the moment she stepped out of the shower, she wasted no time in clicking into the new episode of fairy tail.
sitting at her desk, she hurriedly accessed the illegal streaming website she used for watching animes since she couldn't afford crunchyroll or any other official platform. being a seventeen year old who was still in school and too busy with cram schools for a part time job, she couldn't afford the luxury of being an avid anime fan. there was no cosplay, or figurines, she wasn't even allowed manga thanks to her extremely religious mother who believed that it was all the devil's ploy.
either way, that wasn't going to stop her from watching her favourite animes. right now, she was into one called fairy tail that had only been released a few years ago. it was a little different to any other anime she had watched before as it had a very strong theme of friendship and family overpowers any enemy, insane plot armour that prevents anyone from dying, and a lot of fan service for both the males and females. however, once you looked past all of that, the characters had so much more depth and growth throughout the show that made it so enjoyable and addicting to watch. she couldn't wait to see what it would grow into.
"ugh, why are there always so many ads." she sighed, feeling like she had clicked a million close buttons. "damn it." she cursed, having accidentally clicked on one of the ads whilst trying to close the one before.
bring your animes to life!
in big bold letters across the screen, the words had caught her attention. only for a split second before she rolled her eyes and tried to click out of it. however, upon doing so, it reopened again.
don't miss out! just fill in the box below!
"seriously, i don't have time for this!" she whispered to herself, growing frustrated as she closed the tab once more. however, just as before, the tab opened up once more. she groaned, annoyed that this stupid ad wouldn't leave her alone.
enter your favourite character's name and let the magic do it's job.
a sigh escaped her lips as she stared at the words before her. hoping that it would disappear if she just did as it said, she decided to type and submit a name into the box. "there, now leave me alone." she mumbled after pressing enter on her keyboard.
thank you! please allow up to twenty four hours for it to work!
she rolled her eyes, closing the tab and breathing a sigh of relief as the tab didn't re-open and she could finally watch her episode. however, before she could even press play, her door suddenly slammed open and the devil herself stood in her doorway.
"reina takahashi." her mother seethed, a fire behind her words as she glared at her daughter. sighing in defeat, reina realised she was too late as she had to instead face the wrath of her mother.
