Hi lovely readers!! So I'm starting this story, and I hope you guys like it!!

Where is he?  Jane asked herself as she looked out for the last time at the crowd of happy parents. She looked for the one man that was her father. The man who promised he would be there, but he wasn’t. She looked down, disappointed. She had expected this.

A frown started to creep up on Jane’s face. She instantly took it off and flung it away. A frown wouldn’t do. She put up her shell and prepared to act like she didn’t care, even though it crushed her inside. Just as expected Lanie comes skipping over after the curtain closes.

“Hey Jane! You did great! Do you want to get some pizza with me and my folks? Or do you have plans with your parents?” Lanie gushed.

“They didn’t come,” Jane says plainly, keeping up the I-don’t-care act.

“What? They promised!” cried Lanie.

Wow, she cares more than I do, Jane thought to herself. She told herself again she didn’t care about where her parents were.

“Whatever I don’t care about them. But if your offer stands with pizza, that sounds cool,” Jane says wanted to change the topic as soon as possible.

“Of course it still stands! Lets change and then we can get some pizza,” Lanie says tying her curly brown hair in a bun. They both walk to the changing room and change into normal jeans and tee shirts.

“Are we supposed to just leave the costumes?” Jane asks the drama teacher Ms. Banks who has finally came back from the stage.

“Yes dear, that would be perfect,” Ms. Bank replies smiling making her pink red lipsticked lips fully out-stretched, the age of her face also reveals itself  in wrinkles, while the other make-up on her face scrunches.

Gross, Jane thinks to herself. She’s more of the no make-up type. It fits her well though, her face is quite beautiful, with her waves of dark hair and the affect of her piercing grey eyes.

They walk out of the dressing room just in time for Jane to see Jacob. Jacob McGregor. Jane instantly gives him her best glare, and he quickly returns it. Lanie just rolls her eyes, used to Jane’s glares at Jacob, and many other kids their age.

“I hate that boy,” Jane mutters after they’re outside. “Sure you do,” Chuckles Lanie.

“I do!” Jane says stopping and looking at Lanie, but Lanie just shakes her head knowing better than to fight with Jane.

“You did great girls!” Mrs. Reed, Lanie’s mom, says handing the girls both water bottles. Jane feels her heart drop as she remembers her parents aren’t there. She knew her mother wouldn’t come, she was in India after all. But her father should have been there.

“Thanks Mom,” Lanie says giving her mother an appreciative smile.

“Thanks Mrs. Reed,” Jane says with an empty smile, even though she really is happy for the water.

“How many times must I tell you? Call me Laura, please,” Mrs. Reed says in a kind tone. Jane nods, even though she’ll just continue to call her Mrs. Reed.

“Let’s go get some pizza ladies!” Mr. Reed says joining them.

Though the pizza was in fact very good, Jane still is a little sad about her dad being a no-show. She hides it well though, Lanie thinks Jane is over the whole thing.

“If you could just drop me off, that would be great,”  Jane asks politely.

“Yes, of course Janie,” Mrs. Reed said cheerily. Jane cringed, she hated being called Janie by anyone who didn’t really know her.

The car ride was then awkward, even with the constant chatter from Lanie. When they finally pull up in front of Jane’s dad’s house, Jane says a quick thank you and hops out of their Subaru forester and takes the key out of her shoulder bag.

I wonder where he is, his car isn’t here, Jane wonders to herself. The driveway looks empty without her father’s junky car. She opens the paint peeling house, and walks into the small living room/ kitchen and into her tiny closet of a room. Her father’s house is a lot different from her mom’s modern mansion.

She thinks about where her father could be, deciding he’s probably drinking with his friends. She lays down on her small bed waiting for sleep to come without changing or brushing her teeth.

At exactly 2:42 a.m. the phone rings. Jane groggily walks over and picks up the phone.

“Hello? Is this Jane Carter?” A voice asks through the phone.

“Yes. And who are you?” Jane asks.

“I’m part of the police department. We just found your father dead, he got in a car crash while under the influence of drinking,” The policeman went on, but Jane stopped listening.

“Hello? Jane? Are you there?” The policeman asks.

“Where is he?” Jane asks calmly.

“Well you see,” The policeman starts.

They always make things so complicated, Jane thinks to herself.

“Where is he?” She asks again sternly

“Well he’s,” The policeman asks again.

“Where is he?!” Jane shouts, she’s not necessarily mad at the policeman.

The anger bubbles inside of her. At that moment , she hates her father. She hates her father for doing that. For being such an idiot, and such a drunk. She hates the way he laughs and everything he does at that moment, but really, she just hates him for leaving her.
