Ben effortlessly lifts me off the floor and shoves me into Taylor. I stumble right into her chest and I feel her arms wrap around me and drag me under a table where Ashlyn and Aiden were.
"Wait-!" I try to push myself back up to my feet to return to Tyler.
Taylor is quick to yank me back and shouts over the rumbling, "Ben's got him!"
I spin my head in his direction, finding Tyler already cradled in Ben's arm under a desk with Logan. The table above us shakes and I have to prop my hands up to keep it from shifting.
I then stare down at Aiden's unconscious body, which Ashlyn was holding close to her chest.
"Ashlyn! Is he-"
We both gasp when Aiden's eyes shoot open and stare right into Ashlyn's. He wears an abnormally freakish smile, one that makes my blood run cold.
I reach my hand out for them both when my vision blurs into a black void. I blink several times until my eyes make out a warm light overhead. Almost like my body was sprung back to life, I jolt up from the makeshift bed we had all fallen asleep on.
I turn my attention to Aiden's shaking body and I shoot up and lift his head, "Aiden! Aiden, wake up!!"
My shouts drag the others' attention toward us and not long after, the adults come rushing into the room. I am pulled away by my mom so Aiden's parents could take my place.
I trip but my mom takes my arms and spins me to face her. I look up at her with widened eyes. She takes my face in her hands and frantically looks me over,
"What happened?! Are you hurt-"
"Aiden is! Not me." I wiggle out of her embrace and rush over to Aiden, who is somehow already conscious. How...
How did he recover that quick? The damage must've not been as bad as it looked. I watch as he pushes everyone away from him and I hear him choke out,
"Don't need...hospital..."
He was recovering immensely faster that Tyler did. Lily suddenly rushes into Aiden's arms and cries into his shoulder. He reluctantly wraps an arm around her, trying to assure everyone that he didn't need medical attention.
In a quiet voice, completely out of character for him, Aiden lifts his head up to meet Ash's. She had been trembling silently a few feet away, not having moved from where she had woken up from.
"Ash...?"
In a matter of seconds, she is up from her spot and in Aiden's arms, whispering something for only him to hear. I can't help but let out a sigh of relief when he reciprocates the embrace, proving that he was no longer on the brink of death with his genuine smile.
My focus on them dissipates when a hand finds my arm, pulling me away. I turn to see my mom's worried face once again,
"Y/N...honey, are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm fine. I already told you that I'm not the one that-"
I wince and suck in a breath when a jolting pain shoots through the back of my head. I bring a hand up to massage my scalp, feeling a throbbing headache coming in.
"Y/N?!" My mom brings her hands up to cradle my head, checking me for injuries.
Her voice sounds distant and I try my best to focus on her expression, but I can barely make out her features.
"I...I'm good..." I say, more to myself than to her.
Another blurry figure makes its appearance beside my mom. I can't confirm who it is until his face is close enough to spot his soft blue eyes.
