Taehyung was finishing up a tattoo on his client's forearm, the buzz of the needle a familiar lullaby in the dimly lit shop. The walls were adorned with a spectrum of vibrant art, a canvas of creativity that mirrored the soul of the artist.
"Alright, we're all set," Taehyung announced, gently wiping away the excess ink and blood. The client admired the new piece, a stunning phoenix in flight, its fiery plumage a stark contrast against their skin.
Jungkook appeared from the back, a hint of excitement playing on his features. "I hope you don't mind," he said, a twinkle in his eye, "but I've decided to close the shop early today."
Taehyung looked up, surprised. "Is everything okay?"
"Everything's perfect," Jungkook replied, a gentle smile curving his lips. "I just thought we could both use a little break."
Taehyung couldn't hide his curiosity as Jungkook ushered him out of the shop and into the warm embrace of the late afternoon. They strolled through the bustling streets, the smell of street food mingling with the scent of blooming flowers from nearby planters. The sun dipped lower, casting a warm orange glow that painted the buildings and the faces of passersby. Jungkook led the way with a sense of purpose, his eyes scanning the horizon as if searching for something specific.
Finally, they arrived at a secluded spot in the park, a small clearing nestled between tall, leafy trees. Jungkook spread out a picnic blanket and revealed a basket filled with Taehyung's favorite dishes-grilled meats, sticky rice, and a variety of kimchi. His heart fluttered at the thoughtfulness behind Jungkook's gesture.
They sat side by side, the sunset casting a warm glow over their meal. Taehyung took a deep breath, the scent of the BBQ and the crispness of the freshly cut vegetables tantalizing his senses. Jungkook handed him a bottle of chilled soju, and they clinked their glasses together, a silent toast to their burgeoning relationship.
"Tell me about yourself." Jungkook's voice was a gentle prompt, cutting through the serenity of the evening. Taehyung took a sip of the soju, feeling the warmth spread through his chest. He hesitated for a moment, unsure of where to begin. Then, as if a dam had broken, the words flowed from him like a river.
"I'm from Daegu. I moved to Seoul a year ago to pursue my dream of becoming a full-time tattoo artist." Taehyung spoke with a fondness that made his eyes twinkle. "But before that, I was just a kid with a sketchbook and a wild imagination, drawing on every scrap of paper I could find. And I'm an orphan."
Jungkook's eyes widened slightly, and he reached over to squeeze Taehyung's hand. "I'm sorry," he murmured, genuine concern etched on his face.
"No don't feel pity for me, I hate when people do that," Taehyung said, a hint of defensiveness in his voice. He took another sip of soju, the warmth of the alcohol soothing his nerves. "Art became my escape, my way of expressing feelings I couldn't put into words. It was the only constant in a life that was full of uncertainties."
Jungkook nodded, his hand still resting comfortably over Taehyung's. "I can see that in your work," he said, his eyes sweeping over the tattoo artist's hands, stained with ink. "Your passion for art is what drew me to you in the first place."
Taehyung felt a warmth spread through him, not just from the soju, but from Jungkook's understanding. He rarely talked about his past, but there was something about Jungkook that made him feel safe, like he could finally let his guard down.
"Art is more than just a hobby or a job to me," Taehyung continued, his voice a soft whisper in the quiet park. "It's my lifeline. It's what kept me going through the tough times, you know?"
Jungkook nodded, his gaze never leaving Taehyung's. He could see the raw emotion in the artist's eyes, a testament to the depth of his words. "I can imagine," Jungkook said, his voice gentle. "Your art, it tells a story. And every time I see someone walk out of our shop with your work on their skin, I can't help but feel like they're carrying a piece of your soul with them."
