The rain fell relentlessly from the sky, soaking everything in its path.
The cemetery, usually quiet and peaceful, now resounded with the patter of raindrops hitting the ground.
In the midst of it, Alastor sat on the wet ground, not minding the cold or discomfort, he did not care, for his thoughts were elsewhere.
He stared at the headstone in front of him, particularly the image depicted in the center and the inscription that read "A much-loved wife and mother."
Alastor laid a hand on the grave, and his fingers traced the grooves of his mother's name, as if hoping to feel her touch again.
The loss was still fresh, the wound in his heart still bleeding. Only a month had passed since her death, but each day felt like an eternity without her.
Alastor:<Mom, I am tired>.
He murmured, his voice barely audible.
The words were simple, but they carried the weight of losing someone he had known all his life.
Alastor had always been strong, had always kept his emotions in check, but now, in this place, he felt vulnerable, exposed.
His mother had been his anchor, the one person who had always been there for him, and now she was gone, leaving him adrift in a world he thought he would not have to face alone.
He closed his eyes, trying to imagine her voice, her touch, her warmth.
But all he could feel was the cold rain.
The world felt empty without her, and Alastor was struggling to find a reason to keep going.
Unbeknownst to him, someone else was there, watching him from a short distance away, you.
You stood under the shelter of your umbrella, clutching a bouquet of flowers close to your chest.
Your heart ached as you looked at Alastor, so broken and defeated, a shadow of the man you once knew.
It was the second time you had seen him like this, the first being at his mother's funeral a month ago.
Even then, he had seemed distant, but now it was as if that sorrow had completely consumed him.
You hesitated, unsure of what to do. You wanted to reach out, to offer him comfort, but you didn't know if he would welcome it. You and Alastor have never been very close.
You wondered if he wanted to be left alone, but the sight of him sitting there made your heart ache.
You took a few steps forward, then stopped, uncertain.
The last thing you wanted was to intrude, but at the same time you couldn't stand by and do nothing.
He looked so lost, so vulnerable, and you felt an overwhelming need to be near him, even if he didn't want you to be.
Taking a deep breath, you slowly approached him, as you got closer, you saw the lines of exhaustion and sadness in his face.
Your heart broke for him, and you wished there was something, anything, you could do to ease his pain.
Y/N:<Alastor>
You called softly, your voice gentle, almost hesitant.
He didn't respond at first, his focus still on the grave before him. You took another step closer, holding the umbrella over both of you, shielding him from the rain.
Y/N:<I'm so sorry>
You whispered.
Y/N:<I know how much she meant to you.>
Alastor slowly lifted his head, his eyes meeting yours.
For a moment, he just stared at you, as if trying to process your presence.
There was a moment of surprise in his gaze, but it was immediately replaced by the same sadness that had been haunting him since his mother's death.
Alastor:<You don't have to be here>
he said quietly
Alastor:<I don't want to burden you too with this>
Y/N:<You're not a burden>
You replied, your voice firm but kind.
Y/N:<You're grieving, Alastor. It's okay to let someone stay beside you.>
He looked away, his gaze returning to the gravestone.
Alastor:<I just... I don't know how to do this. I don't know how to move on without her.>
You knelt beside him, placing the flowers gently on his mother's grave. You placed a hand on his shoulder.
Y/N:<You don't have to move on right away>
You said softly.
Y/N:<It's okay to feel lost, to feel hurt. But you don't have to go through it alone.>
Alastor's shoulders shook slightly, as if he was about to start crying, but he restrained himself.
He had always been so strong, so composed.
Alastor:<I miss her so much>
He confessed.
Y/N:<I know, but you need to take care of yourself, to find some way to heal. It's what she would have wanted.>
He closed his eyes.
Alastor:<I don't know if I can.>
Y/N:<You don't have to do it alone, I'm here for you>
You repeated gently.
He remained silent for a long moment, then, slowly, he nodded.
Alastor:<Thank you>
You smiled at him before standing up.
You offered him a hand, and after a moment's hesitation, he took it, letting you help him to his feet.
As the two of you stood there, side by side, you felt a sense of calm, It was a small, almost imperceptible shift, but it was enough to give you hope.
Y/N:<We'll get through this. One day at a time.>
Alastor nodded, his expression still somber but no longer as hopeless as before.
He looked at you, and for the first time in what felt like an eternity, you saw a glimmer of the man you knew.
Alastor:<One day at a time>
He repeated
Together, you left the graveyard, the umbrella shielding both of you from the rain.
Alastor's life had turned upside down since his mother's death, but perhaps, now that he knew you would remain by his side, perhaps the future was not so uncertain.
And perhaps, in time, the wound in his heart would begin to heal and he would find a way to live without the one person who had meant everything to him.
