My one and only

Chapter 1

MEVCABI: "Sanem my child, Ali is coming tomorrow night to ask for your hand in marriage. He's a good boy and has a good job. (Sanem is looking at her mother in shock, is she serious?)He has his own bread bakery, with his father, your father and I think that you both are a good match."
SANEM: "Annem, how can I marry someone I don't love? Plus he's very arrogant, I don't like him not even for a friend!" Sanem is getting angry and frustrated at her parents. And they can see it.
NIHAT: "Sanem, I'm sorry but you're going to marry him, end of discussion." Tears are welling up in Sanem's eyes.
SANEM: " baba, please, don't do this to me, there's something that bothers me about him, Please, something's not right with him." Her father and mother just looked at her, by that look she knew it was the end of this discussion. She ran up to her room and started crying. How can I marry someone I don't love. Or someone that rubs me the wrong way, the way he does. Leyla gets to go to college and I got stuck here and I'm going to be engaged to someone I can't stand.  Poor Sanem was devastated , she's lying in her bed thinking while tears were coming down her cheeks.  She's been secretly taking online classes for speech therapy, she loves children and wants to work with young children one day. she is also minoring in creative writing, as a child she would always right her own little stories and plays and tried to act them out with her friends.
How can I get out of this marriage, I know my parents mean well, I know they love me, but this is going to be hard. I'm only 20, I'm too young.
Sanem is definitely a dreamer, she believes in love at first sight.  "But I guess sometimes dreams are meant to be shattered." "I guess I have no choice, okay Annem and Baba, I will do my best to a least try to like him and get to know him during the engagement period." And that's what she did, it's been one year since the engagement, but he has been verbally abusive towards her, He yells at her when they're alone, he's rude to her in front of his friends, he tells her "when I'm with my friends you keep your mouth shut, I don't want you saying anything stupid! And embarrassing me!" He tells her how ugly and stupid she is. She tries to be nice to him but he always puts her down. there are times when he would grab her arms and squeeze them so hard he would give her black and blue marks. One night she was sitting by the pier with  Ahan, she was telling her what he would say to her, and how he treated her, sometimes when he would get mad at her he would grab both of her arms and shake her violently, sometimes he would even actually punch her arms, and push her like he wanted to show her who's in charge of this relationship. It's like she had to be the obedient fiance , and what he says goes. Ahan was very upset and worried about her best friend.
AHAN: Sanem, I wish I could help you, tell me what can I do?"
SANEM: "I can't get you involved, I don't know what he's capable of, the other day he grabbed my arms shook me and squeezed them so hard, Ahan look at my arms there black and blue, he even tried to slap me but I pulled back. I had to lie to my parents and tell them I ran into the door at the bacal, the funny part is I couldn't explain why both arms are black and blue"
AHAN: "why did he grab you and try to slap you like that?"
SANEM: "he tried to kiss me and I wouldn't let him, Ahan he got very angry, he was very scary Ahan, you should have seen the look in his eyes, they were so cold and angry looking. then he told me he will make me his on our wedding night, but for now he was going to his girlfriend for sex!, do you believe that, his girlfriend, I wish he would stay with his girlfriend and get out of my life!! I'm telling you I can't stand him, you should see some of his friends, there not nice, They're a bunch of thugs.
AHAN: "Sanem, please you have to tell your parents, this isn't good, I'm sure they will believe you."
SANEM:" you should see the way he acts in front of them like the perfect son-in-law. He makes them laugh and he hugs my mother and complements her on her cooking . I've never seen anything like it. It's like he has multiple personalities. He scares me, sometimes I think that he enjoys seeing me suffer, and upset. I don't know what to do, I can't take it anymore."
AHAN: "sanem let's go talk to your parents, now!! he's going to hurt you."
SANEM: "I will go by myself, I don't want you to get involved, okay?" Ahan agreed. 
That night Sanem sat down and talked to her parents and told them everything. They couldn't believe it, he seems like such a nice boy and the parents seem very nice, how can someone hide themselves so well.
MEVCABI: Sanem, stop, are you saying all this because you don't want to marry him." Her mother was upset
SANEM: "look at my arms, he did this, I'm not lying" and she starts crying. Her father looked at her mother with concern and they both went and hugged Sanem.
NIHAT: "okay, my dear child, don't worry we will end it, we won't make you marry him, we will figure something out soon." Sanem felt like she had a weight lifted off her shoulders, she felt free. Her parents looked at each other they were worried. Sanem went to bed, and her parents sat outside talking.
MEVCABI: "Nihat, we have to break the engagement, and it has to be soon the wedding is in a month, there is no way, our daughter is going to marry him, I knew there was something I didn't like about him, if she marries him who knows what else he will do to her, he might even kill her. It sounds like he's very abusive, you know Sanem she doesn't lie, she's has a pure innocent heart."
NIHAT: "okay my life, we will figure out something, we have to pay back the loan his father gave us, I'd rather die than see my daughter in an unhappy marriage! We will talk to him by the end of the week, hopefully we can get a bank loan and pay him back. Honestly Mevcabi, I didn't think Ali was a bad guy, he seemed nice."
MEVCABI: " he fooled me to Nihat, but I'm glad Sanem came to us, I can't believe we almost married her off to Ali. Nihat she was suffering for a year and never said a word to us." Mevcabi was crying. She felt so bad and guilty.
NIHAT: "even his father seemed sincere, they fooled us Mevcabi."
MEVCABI: "that they did, and I'm not easily fooled!"
NIHAT: "We will figure out something, don't worry." They looked at each other and are very worried.
"this is not going to be easy Mevcabi." Sanem's parents held each other all night, trying to figure out how they are going to break off the engagement, and how they are going to get the money to pay them back. " Nihat, what have we gotten ourselves into, and our poor Sanem is the one suffering, and has suffered the most."
The next night Sanem was at the pier with her friends when Ali showed up. He was furious, he didn't want her to socialize with anyone. He grabs her and takes her back to his bakery in the office.
ALI: "didn't I tell you, that I don't want you socializing with anyone!! Stop disobeying me!!" He was very angry.
SANEM: " actually I don't have to listen to you. This engagement is off and my parents agree. I don't want to be with you. I don't like you. I hate you.!!" He slaps her across the face, two times. She looks at him with tears in her eyes.
ALI: "see that's where you're wrong, you will marry me, you don't have a choice, and your parents don't have a choice!"                                                                     
SANEM: "I don't have to do anything, I refuse to be treated the way you treat me! Like dirt, you're sick!! Get away from me!!"   She tries to go around him, He grabs her again and starts beating her up, she was crying, and Telling him to stop, that he's hurting her. But he wouldn't stop, he just kept hitting her and kicking her. She's lying on the floor motionless, she hears him make a phone call in the other room, he's talking to his friends telling them to go after her parents, "just scare them don't kill them." Sanem somehow found the energy got up and ran out the back door.  It was too late, the bacal was torn apart and her parents were lying on the floor motionless, Sanem was crying she couldn't believe what was happening. She hid when she heard voices in the other room, it was Ali's men. She is trying to control her tears, she doesn't want them to hear her. All of a sudden she hears sirens and the guys run out. someone grabs Sanem's arm, puts his hand over her mouth so she doesn't scream, she turns to look and it's Osman, he takes her to his house, Ahan cleans her up, while Osman goes and checks on her parents.
Sanem was crying uncontrollably, Ahan was trying to calm her.
SANEM: "what happens if they killed them, my god Ahan, why." Sanem couldn't control her tears. Osman came back
OSMAN: "Sanem look at me, your parents are going to the hospital they're breathing, they were seriously injured by those men. Your father was more alert, than your mother, but they are both alive. I told your father I will take care of you somehow , but Sanem you have to leave you can't stay here, because  Ali is going to come after you for sure, and god only knows what he will do."
SANEM: "how can I leave not knowing how they are?"
OSMAN: "I will check up on them, and let you know, I'm sending you to Antalya with Ahan, I know the manager at the hotel resort there and he will give you both a job, okay, please Sanem, staying here won't help your parents it will make things worse, I'm sure he's very angry, and who knows what else there capable of. Sanem agreed, the next morning Osman snuck both girls out of his house, gave them new phones with new numbers and money to get to the resort.
SANEM: "osman, please check up on them and let me know, okay.?" Osman hugs the girls and sneaks them out of the house.
OSMAN: "I will, let's go before the neighborhood wakes up and they come back looking for you."
SANEM: "what about my parents, they need to be safe too."
OSMAN: "I will figure something out for them okay, you will not contact them, you will both go through me okay?"
SANEM: "okay, thank you" she hugs him tightly and left with Ahan. Osman was worried for the girls and Sanem's parents, guys like this have been causing problems in our neighborhoods for a long time, something has to change and soon, I really thought Ali and his father were good people. Boy was I fooled.
"God, I hope they don't find Sanem, because if they do it won't be good for her, they will kill her, because according to them she humiliated Ali, and the whole family."
SANEM: "Ahan, I'm scared, I can't believe this is happening, how could my parents deal with someone like that, I don't understand."
AHAN: "I don't know Sanem, but we have to be very careful until we get to the resort."
SANEM: "okay, are flight is leaving soon put your hat on and your sun glasses, so no one recognizes us."
Back at Osmans Ali showed up looking for Sanem. Osman pretended like he didn't know what was going on.
ALI: "hey Osman have you seen Sanem.?" Now Osman sees the look in his eyes, and it's definitely anger, but Ali is controlling himself very well.
OSMAN: "no I haven't, maybe she's with her parents at the Bacal?" Ali just stared at him, probably trying to figure out if Osman is lying, because he knows how close he is with the Aydens.
ALI: "maybe, I'll go check, see you soon."
Osman took a deep breath, "that was close."
Later in the day, Osman found out that her parents are stable, serious but stable. He will let the girls land and then he will Tex Sanem to tell her that they will be okay, "thank goodness that Leyla is away at school"
The girls landed safely and Sanem received the text saying they will be okay, and that there is a police officer stationed at their hospital room door. Sanem felt some relief, at least they are protected and being taken care of.
SANEM: "well Ahan are you ready to start on a new adventure?"
AHAN: "I guess, let's go girlfriend, Osmans friend Anil is waiting for us."
The girls got to the resort and met Anil, he was very nice. He gave them a room to spend the night in and in the morning he would tell them where they will be working, he told them they can live in that room at the hotel as long as they work at the hotel.
The girls felt safe and happy.  Sanem actually felt free, no more Ali to put her down and beat her up."I'm starting over, I'm going to be working and finishing my college courses on line."
Sanem looks at Ahan and says with a glass of water "here's to new beginnings, and new adventures my friend!" They clinked their glasses together and laughed. And got ready for bed.
SANEM: "good night Ahan"
AHAN: "good night Sanem."
