I counted off the room number as we walked down the corridor. "1...2...3...4..." I moved my feet in synch as I counted.
"This is gonna take forever!" Cynthia groaned.
"Shut up I'm trying to count." I continued counting till I reached the end of the corridor.
"Well looks like your dorm isn't this way. Next corridor!" Cynthia turned around and grabbed my arm, pulling me behind her. Why does each corridor only go to 10! I can't even imagine where Cynthia's dorm is.
We then walked back to where we started.
***
"Alright, I think yours should be down there," Cynthia pointed her finger towards the other corridor. She started walking down the corridor while still holding my arm. I walked behind her.
I started counting the room numbers. "11...12...13...14..." So close. "15...16 and...17!" I threw my arms up in the air.
"You gonna open it?" Cynthia nudged me towards the door.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out the envelope. I reopened the envelope and took the key out of it. I put the envelope back into my pocket as I walked towards the door.
"Oh, for heaven's sake." Cynthia marched over to me and snatched the key out of my hand. She put the key into the keyhole and turned it, unlocking the door. She pulled the key out and tossed it back to me as she opened the door. "Thats how you do it." She exclaimed.
I rolled my eyes at her once again as I walked into my new dorm room. It was quiet. So quiet it was becoming uncomfortable. Two small dark chestnut writing desks were under the Terravere banner at the back on the room. Two matching dressers on the left with an old dusty mirror above them. And to the right was the bunk beds.
"So, you got a roommate?" Cynthia said as she walked into the room and stood behind me.
"I don't see anyone." I quickly peered around the room and didn't see anyone.
"Well, there's bunk beds so you gotta have someone right? I don't think your old Aunt Suzane would make a special request to have you alone in a dorm room."
"Yea, I don't think she'd care." I looked around the room again. Seeing no one, I placed my suitcase on the bottom bunk. Cynthia sat next to my suitcase and watched as I unclasped it. I silently opened my suitcase and started taking out some clothes.
It remained silent for a few minutes until I heard a creak. Startled, I turned around quickly, only to see nothing. I shrugged and turned back around, refocusing my attention on unpacking. I then began to pin a few of my band posters onto the wall beside my bed.
"Boo!"
I turned around and fell backwards into my suitcase upon seeing a person there. I looked over to Cynthia who seemed to be just as startled as I was.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you, but then again I did," the girl smiled at me and then looked over and saw Cynthia. "Hey Cynthie! Long time no see." She waved over at Cynthia.
I looked a little closer at the girl, studying her features and clothes. Wait I know that girl its "Juno?!"
"Thats me!" She did a little twirl.
"Like Juno Esquivel?" I couldn't tell if it was her or someone else.
She nodded. Wow. Did everyone but me have an almost unrecognizable glow up over the break! It felt like my jaw dropped to the floor.
She looked so different. Instead of looking all 'quirky' with her pigtails and braces, she had her dark brown hair down and her braces were gone. Her hair was straight with blunt face-framing layers.
Even though her appearance had changed drastically, it seemed like her personality hadn't. Oh, this is gonna be a long year with HER as my roommate.
"You know I better get going. I still gotta find my dorm and unpack." Cynthia stood up and walked towards the door.
"Don't leave me!" I groaned. I didn't want to be with Juno. I didn't want to share a room with Juno. I didn't want to be near Juno.
I looked at Cynthia with pleading eyes.
"See you at dinner. Bye Marlee." She said as she grabbed her luggage from outside the dorm and walked away.
"Well looks like you've taken bottom if I'm not mistaken."
I leaned back onto my bed next to my suitcase and nodded.
"I'll take top then." She tossed her bags up onto the top bunk. I could hear her stepping up the ladder.
Juno then hung her head over the bed, "This is gonna be a fun year!" She said with excitement in her voice.
I just looked up at the bottom of the top bunk, "Uh-huh." I responded blandly.
A/N: This chapter took me a while to write cause WRITERS BLOCK :) I'm starting school in about a week from whenever this is published and I will maybe, probably, definitely slow down with updates especially with (American) football season. I'll try and publish one more chapter before I go back to school. Thanks for reading!
