Alexei's Pov
Money. That's all it takes to get these fuckers talking. I lounge on my office couch, my legs draped over the settee like I have absolutely no worries in this world. The cigar in my hand is lighted and slowly burning tendrils of smoke into the air. I almost laughed at the idea of one of my brothers walking into the room and witnessing this scene. Well, that's if they could even get through the door past the blockage in front of it.
My dress shirt's sleeves are rolled up to my elbows, with my suit jacket hanging somewhere by the door. Blood stained my hands while my dagger stayed embedded into the chest of the dead body across from me.
I take another drag of my cigar. It was a normal night like any other, but was it really? Our lives had just been rearranged with a little sister. Granted it's only been one day, but I could see the changes. She doesn't need to be involved in this life. The bratva isn't a space for little girls and yet...I couldn't stop myself from bringing her here. Did I expect my brothers to welcome her with warmth? No. It isn't the norm for us. We're Made men. I knew it wasn't the best decision, but she is family and anywhere she would go this family curse will find her. Once you're born into a bratva family...you can never leave it.
I put out my cigar and stand up. Pushing the body aside with my foot before exiting the office. I make my way to the bathroom and silently wash my hands clean. It was 2 AM and the twins and Milani have gone to bed a while back already. I wasn't too sure about the others besides Silas, who was busy working on finding out what's on some files for me. The prick I murdered was part of a well known gang. I needed info and offered money. I got what I needed so I killed him. It's the fun part of all the work I do, I won't lie. It's satisfying to watch these assholes choke on their own blood while they try to beg for forgiveness and mercy.
My thoughts were interrupted by Mikhail entering the bathroom and standing behind me leaning against the door frame.
"You're awfully happy. You kill someone again?" He asked in his usual teasing tone.
I scoffed and turned the tap off then dried my hands on a towel.
"Funny, I just did what had to be done. What have you been doing?" I asked in response turning to face him.
Mikhail stood up straight crossing his arms. "Been cleaning up your mess for the last few hours and Got some more information and records of Milani. Anitta called too said she needs to talk with you urgently. Said it's some shit regarding Antonov."
I nodded and ran my hand through my hair.
"You don't actually think he's dead, do you?" He sighed unrolling his arms.
I shook my head. "It's just too much of a convenient time for him to be dead. There's a new bratva wannabe gang that has began to attack some of our best suppliers. Silas saw some assholes with an old bratva tattoo as a symbol. Who else would use that symbol?"
"Antonov. What? Stealing the Pakhans wife was not enough? For years the bratva had to rebuild everything we lost due to his betrayal and it's been years. Why now?" Mikhail questioned.
"Because our grandfather is stepping down from the pakhan position soon." I answered truthfully. I hadn't revealed that to anyone yet. I was soon to be Pakhan and it is a time that is frustrating and worrisome. Everything needs to meticulously planned out. For years I knew I would have to serve my heir duties but I didn't think it would be this soon.
Mikhail didn't look surprised. Knowing that it should've been my position years ago but I refused out of respect for my elder and due to having to raise the twins. My grandfather was like a real father to us. The only hardest made man to still survive over the years and was the best pakhan during his own time and when he took over again. The man was crazy but any person in the bratva world would say he's the best crazy out there. Even his enemies had respect for him. That man was built for it all. He trained me and I can only thank him for everything I know to this day.
