"You're not helping!"Wonwoo shrieked into his phone, breaking off whatever Minghao had been ranting about.
Despite having indulged in the details while walking back from school, Minghao – being the nosy little hoe he was – called Wonwoo again, saying he wanted to hear all of it once more.
Wonwoo had just begun nicely explaining to him why he wouldn't be repeating all of it again – solely because he was too embarrassed to admit it to himself – until Minghao went on and on about how adorable Wonwoo was, and how fortunate Mingyu was since he'd successfully made Wonwoo stumble over his words.
"Wow. You're rude," Minghao deadpanned after Wonwoo had cut him off, sounding bored.
"And you're nosy. I'm hanging up-"
"Wonwoo, no! Wait!"
The boy groaned helplessly over the call. Minghao was a tough one to deal with at times. "What is it?"
"Are you done with English?"
"No. I don't intend to start it anytime soon,"
"Mood, but like, your grades?"
"My grades can go fuck themselves-"
"And Mingyu can-"
"MINGHAO!" bellowed Wonwoo, a hundred percent sure that he'd probably busted his friend's eardrum.
"Wonwoo, why are you being ridiculous? Keep the damn phone away!"
His mum's voice, to add on to the chaos, joined in with Minghao's giggles. "I hate you. So much,"
"I love you too~ I'm hanging up,"
"Finally! Bye,"
Unlike what his mum had instructed, Wonwoo fell on his bed, planting his face in his comforter as he threw his phone to the side. Minghao could really be a handful at times.
His day had been quite remarkable. One that stood out painfully amongst his very routine life – going to school, frolicking with the ex-neighbourhood cats, and talking shit about the loud guy everyone in school knew. Wonwoo had never imagined getting hit on by a literal fucking athlete. Not just any athlete – it was Kim Mingyu.
Wonwoo squealed into his pillow, flapping his feet akin to a duck on his bed, as he thought back to the events of the day. Realisation suddenly hit him in the face like a truck – he had to head out the next morning with Mingyu. Again. After all that had happened throughout the day.
Just the idea had blood rushing to his cheeks once again, but it also made his heart palpitate violently. Mingyu hadn't mentioned the kiss during Chemistry; he shouldn't do so the next morning too.
Before he could think too deep into all of it, the sound of his mum's bangles reaching his ears had him springing off the bed, and sliding into the chair at his desk. Unlike what he'd expected, his mum didn't come to his room; it seemed she'd gone to her own by the sounds of it.
Reluctantly pulling out his books for English, Wonwoo begrudgingly spent a ridiculous amount of time penning down an essay, giving his invalid opinions about whether or not K-pop artists could be good idols for youngsters.
"Nobody cares," Wonwoo had it repeating in his brain through completing the essay. As soon as the clock struck ten, he shoved his books aside, shimmied into his pyjamas, and was back on the bed within five minutes.
Wonwoo wanted to fall asleep, but it seemed like Mingyu had no plans of letting that happen. A buzz under Wonwoo's pillow made him snag his phone and check the text notification he'd just been sent. It was from Mingyu.
'Hey' it said.
'??'
'R u awake'
'what does it look like'
'yes'
'bingo'
Wonwoo wondered why Mingyu sounded like a toddler on text. As he hovered his fingers over the keypad, his phone suddenly shuddered in his palms — Mingyu was calling.
Wonwoo debated over whether he should pick it up, and spend a significant amount of time talking to him, or just pretend the call never came and go to sleep. But the thought of Mingyu calling him so late in the night, despite knowing he had practice the next day, warmed Wonwoo's heart.
He eventually swiped the circular, green icon to the right, and shuffled off of bed to step into the adjoined balcony to his room. "Hey," he whispered.
"Hey,"
"Why'd you call?"
"I couldn't sleep,"
A sudden burst of confidence made Wonwoo blurt "aww, thinking about me?"
Mingyu's reply took him by surprise. "Yes, actually. Can't wait to see you tomorrow morning,"
"Oh- Um, oh wow, okay-"
Mingyu giggled through the phone, eliminating most of Wonwoo's flusterment. He smiled, subconsciously, as he waited for Mingyu's giggles to die down.
"You not being able to sleep still doesn't help the fact that you have to get up tomorrow. Earlier than usual too, I don't want to get stood up for fucking marathon practice,"
That sent Mingyu into another fit of laughter, making Wonwoo marvel about how much he could even laugh. Mingyu always seemed to be the epitome of joy, just like the Disney character.
"You're right, though. I'll get going now, goodnight,"
"Night,"
