The sun cast a warm glow over the Haveli, its rays dancing off the intricately carved arches and casting long shadows across the courtyard. Anwesha was in the backyard, her delicate hands gently watering the vibrant flowers that bloomed under her care. The scent of jasmine filled the air, mingling with the earthy aroma of damp soil. Aiden was lounging nearby, reclining in a garden chair with a book in hand. But as the minutes passed, his attention drifted away from the pages and settled on her.
An idea sparked in his mind, one that made a mischievous grin tug at the corners of his lips. Without a second thought, he pulled out his phone and pretended to make a call, raising his voice just loud enough for Anwesha to hear.
"OOOO MY GOODNESS, ZARAR!" Aiden shouted, feigning excitement. "YOU KNOW I AM SINGLE, RIGHT? PLEASE FIND A PERFECT GIRL FOR ME!"
Anwesha froze, the watering can suspended in mid-air. She slowly turned her head towards him, her eyes narrowing into dangerous slits. Her heart pounded in her chest, a mix of irritation and something else—something she refused to acknowledge—stirring within her.
"What are you blabbering about, Nawab saab ?" she snapped, her voice laced with jealousy she desperately tried to hide.
Aiden pretended not to notice her reaction, instead, he continued his fake conversation, his grin growing wider. "Yes, Zarar! I'm ready to settle down. Find me a girl who's beautiful, smart, and, most importantly, who won't ignore me like someone I know!"
Anwesha slammed the watering can down with more force than necessary, her cheeks flushing with a mix of anger and embarrassment. She stomped over to where Aiden was sitting, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Nawab saab ! Stop this nonsense right now!" she demanded, glaring at him.
He looked up at her, feigning innocence. "Oh, Anwesha! I didn't see you there," he said, though the twinkle in his eyes betrayed his amusement. "Why are you so upset? You're not jealous, are you?"
Anwesha huffed, trying to keep her composure. "Why would I be jealous? It's your life. Do whatever you want!" She turned away, her heart racing, but she refused to let him see how much his words had affected her.
Aiden stood up, walking over to her with that infuriatingly confident stride of his. "You know, Anwesha, if you have something to say, you should just say it," he teased, leaning in closer.
She turned her face away, determined not to meet his gaze. "There's nothing to say," she muttered, but her voice lacked conviction.
Aiden chuckled softly, enjoying the way her resolve seemed to crumble just a little under his scrutiny. "Sure, nothing at all," he agreed sarcastically. "But you know what? I think you'd be a great match for me, Anwesha. Don't you think?"
Anwesha's heart skipped a beat at his words, but she quickly masked her reaction with an eye roll. "In your dreams, Nawab saab ," she retorted, but her voice wavered ever so slightly.
Aiden watched her for a moment longer, his expression softening. He had meant to tease her, to see that fire in her eyes, but now, standing so close to her, he felt something deeper—a connection that scared him as much as it excited him. But before he could say anything else, Anwesha brushed past him, heading back into the Haveli.
"Don't waste your time, nawab saab ," she threw over her shoulder as she disappeared inside, leaving him standing there, the playful smile slowly fading from his lips.
