Quiet mornings were few and far between in the Shelby household. Between the men in the betting shop, John's kids galavanting around, and Finn and his friends quiet was not used in a sentence when describing the house.

But this morning was different, the betting shop was quiet only a few men coming in and out while most of the business was moved down to the Garrison and Finn and John's kids were at school.

With all the boys out of the house, Cassie enjoyed the moment of peace as she sat across from Polly at the kitchen table.

Snacking on a few crackers with peanut butter and sipping her tea, Cassie sat quietly as she read her book. Polly sat just as quiet reading from the newspaper, which was an odd sight since the woman never paid attention to the news, but Cassie didn't question it.

The sound of footsteps coming down the stairs disrupted the silence, and Cassie glance up seeing Ada clumsily walking into the kitchen looking like she had only just gotten out of bed.

"Hello Ada." Cassie greeted kindly with a smile

"Hi Cass." Ada yawned patting the top of her head as she passed the table

"Good of you to join us." Polly spoke glancing up from the paper. "Where have you been all day?"

Ada had grabbed the loaf of bread from the stove and started sawing off a rather large piece making Cassie look at her with raised brows.

"In bed. Couldn't sleep. Then I couldn't wake up. Then I was cold and then I had to go for a wee. Then I was with this bear on a boat, but that was a dream." Ada had her plate with the bread on it and grabbed the jar of jam before carrying them both over to the table and taking a seat next to Cassie. "Then I was hungry."

"I think we can tell, that piece of bread is larger than your head." Cassie teased and Ada rolled her eyes nudging her shoulder

"Why are you reading the paper?" Ada asked their aunt with a sour expression on her face

"Why wouldn't I be?" Polly fired back with a sigh

Cassie watched as Ada scooped a large spoonful of jam out of the jar and spread it across her bread, completely covering it.

"I haven't seen you read the paper. I've only ever seen you light fires with them." Ada shrugged

"That's exactly what I was thinking." Cassie quipped dipping another cracker in some peanut butter
