Heels clacked against the sidewalk as you sighed, placing one hand on your hip and holding your phone to your ear with the other. The city noise was overwhelming, and your head pounded from the constant buzz of interviews and photoshoots. Your dark, 4b afro bounced slightly with each step, a crown amidst the chaos of the day.

"Hello?" came a voice on the other end.

"Hey, is this Mariana?" you asked, trying to mask your exhaustion.

"Yes, this is," she replied, her tone unnervingly cheerful. "How can I help you?"

You tried to keep your voice steady. "Tell Kenji that I'm on my way home."

"Mr. Sato?" she asked, sounding too casual. She hadn't even introduced herself properly as being from his office.

"Yes," you confirmed, feeling your irritation grow.

"And could I ask what your relationship is with Mr. Sato?" Mariana's question felt intrusive, adding to your frustration. It was clear she was trying to push your buttons.

"His girlfriend," you said firmly, your patience running thin. Normally, you'd keep your cool, but Mariana's behavior was pushing you to the edge.

"Mhm, alright, and what's your name?" Mariana's tone was condescending, making your blood boil.

"You know my name, Mariana," you replied, struggling to keep your voice steady despite the headache pounding behind your eyes.

"No, I don't... Sorry, Ma'am." Her dismissive attitude was the last straw. Your patience was nearly gone.

The day had been tough enough without Mariana's antics. For months since Kenji hired her, she'd been a thorn in your side, always hovering around him with a flirty demeanor. You'd seen her try to get his attention—batting her eyelashes, leaning too close, and always being around when you couldn't be. It was clear she was trying to create problems for you.

Recently, Mariana had been scheduling Kenji's meetings and events in ways that made it hard for you to see him. It felt like she was deliberately making things difficult. It was both frustrating and disheartening.

As you walked into your building, the doorman gave you a sympathetic look, and you managed a tired smile before heading to the elevator. You kicked off your heels with a sigh of relief as soon as you got into your apartment. The day's exhaustion was weighing heavily on you, and the empty apartment made you feel even more alone.
