At eighteen, Ryu was no longer a child. The weight of his past still lingered, but he carried it with quiet determination. As he stepped into the grand halls of the academy, the reality of his new life began to sink in. This place would be his home for the next few years, and he was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
Ryu made his way to the academy office, the polished marble floors echoing his footsteps. Inside, the principal, an elderly man with kind eyes and a dignified presence, sat behind a large oak desk. The room was lined with bookshelves filled with ancient texts, and the air smelled faintly of parchment and ink.
"Ah, Ryu," the principal greeted him warmly. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you in person. I've heard much about you."
"Thank you, sir," Ryu replied, bowing slightly out of respect. "I'm honored to be here."
The principal gestured for Ryu to sit, and the young man complied, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness.
"Now, I understand that you're eager to start your studies, but before we proceed, is there anything you'd like to discuss?" the principal asked, his tone inviting trust.
Ryu hesitated for a moment, then spoke with quiet resolve. "Yes, sir. There is something important. I don’t want anyone to know about my past... about my situation. It’s something I wish to keep private."
The principal nodded thoughtfully. "I see. You have my word, Ryu. Your secret is safe with me. No one in the academy will learn of it unless you choose to tell them."
"Thank you, sir," Ryu said, relief washing over him. "I also wanted to ask about accommodation. I’d like to stay close to the academy, in a dormitory if possible."
The principal leaned back in his chair, considering. "There’s one space available in a dormitory nearby. It’s a residence shared by some of our senior students. The reason there’s an opening is that one of them recently went abroad with his family. The students who remain are among the cleverest and most polite in the academy. I believe you’ll find it a comfortable place to stay."
Ryu’s eyes lit up with gratitude. "That sounds perfect. I’ll take the space. Thank you for arranging this, sir."
The principal smiled, pleased with Ryu’s decision. "Very well. I’ll inform the students of your arrival. They’ll be expecting you. Make the most of your time here, Ryu. The academy has much to offer, and I’m certain you’ll make a fine addition."
Ryu stood and bowed once more. "I won’t let you down, sir. Thank you for everything."
As he left the office, Ryu felt a sense of purpose welling up inside him. This was his chance to start anew, to build a future that would be entirely his own. Whatever lay ahead, he was ready to face it with courage and determination.
