VEGAS POV

After we wash away our post-sex high, we head to the seating area of my bedroom. It feels like there is a distance that's formed and I'm not sure if it's my fault. I’m uncomfortable as hell when it comes to emotions and comforting anyone, but I don't want to get this wrong with Pete. I want him to trust me as much as he can trust in the fact that I will kill all the demons that haunt him.

He sits on the other side of the couch. Considering what happened yesterday, I give him his space in case he needs it. I can't help but be blunt, it's all I know so I go for it. I need to know what happened.

“Did he rape you?” I ask, keeping my eyes locked on him.

He stares at his hands and is back to the quiet Pete I have only seen a handful of times. I hate it. This isn’t the real him.

“No, he was going to do it, but you busted into the room just before he was about to…to..”

I put my hand up so he doesn’t have to finish that sentence, I know what he means.

“What did they do? I noticed some bruising on your stomach and your eyebrow piercing has been ripped out.”

“The usual Jake and Tommy shit. Punched me in the stomach. They had me tied up, and when I woke up Tommy ripped out the piercing.”

“What happened in the apartment?” I ask.

“Should have followed my gut. I knew something was off when I walked in, but I ignored it. Just wanted to get in and get out with my stuff. As I went to leave my room, Tommy appeared and hit me over the head with something. It knocked me out and I don't remember anything until I woke up in that basement.”

I keep quiet, trying to stay calm, but I am bursting with blood hunger to get down there to make them destroy.

“He knew I'd been watching him for you. They took the burner when they knocked me out, and saw everything on there.” He shrugs. He seems defeated whereas I am getting more riled up with every word.

“What do you want to do, Pete? As you know, aside from what they did to you, I have to enforce for our family. They need to pay and I plan to do it in the worst way possible.”

“I know, Vegas. You have your job to do,” he says.

“Shay is dead isn't he?” he asks and his eyes glisten.

I’d forgotten about Shay, to be honest.

“Yes. He was manning the door to the basement. We shot him before he shot us,” I say.

“He had a sister,” he says, mind distracted as he looks over to the window, lost in thought. “I don't know who or where she is.”

“Does it matter?” I ask.

“Jake was using her as blackmail to keep Shay in line. What if she’s in danger?”

“She won't be in danger now, but we can find her. I'll get Simon on it,” I say. Personally, I don’t give a shit, but Pete deserves some peace from this.

“Okay, thanks,” he says and starts to fidget with his hands, rubbing them back and forth over each other, making his palms red. I need his answer and I know he needs the distraction.

“So? Do you still want to watch? Do you still want to kill Jake and have your revenge? You don't have to do anything, you know, I can do it for you. You can watch or stay in this room. But I need an answer because we have to finish this today. I need to make an example of them to keep our other crews in line.”

I am trying to be empathetic, if that's what it's called, but I also have to do my job and protect our family. Plus, Carlos wants proof after we have finished.
