PAST

The orphanage hall echoed with the sounds of children playing, their laughter mixing with the rustle of leaves from the open windows. Eight-year-old Park Jaemin sat on the wooden bench, his frail figure hunched over as he drew on a piece of paper. His, hopeful eyes occasionally glanced around, searching for a familiar face amidst the chaos.

Despite the lively atmosphere, a certain loneliness clung to Jaemin. They had been here for years, and though many children had come and gone, he and his twin Park Jimin remained unadopted. But Jaemin Often overlooked because of his weak constitution, he found solace in the few things he could control, like his drawings.

"Jaemin !" A bright voice broke through his thoughts. Park Jimin, his twin brother , bounded over with a wide smile. Jimin was everything Jaemin wasn't—confident, strong, and full of energy. But their brotherly bond was undeniable.

"Look what I found!" Jimin said excitedly, holding up a small, colorful butterfly clip. He knelt beside, Jaemin carefully placing the clip in his twin brother's hair. "There, now you look like a princess!"

Jaemin's eyes sparkled with joy as he touched the clip. "Thank you, Jimin," he whispered, his voice filled with gratitude. "It's beautiful."

Jimin grinned, taking Jaemin's hand and pulling him towards the open field. "Come on, let's play before Mrs. Kim calls us in for lunch."

The two twins ran across the grass, their laughter harmonizing with the chirping birds. Jimin was always careful, never letting Jaemin push himself too hard. They played a simple game of tag, with Jimin often letting Jaemin catch him, their giggles filling the air.

After a while, they collapsed onto the grass, breathless but happy. Jimin turned to Jaemin, his eyes serious for a moment. "You know, Jaemin, one day someone will see how special you are. You just have to believe it."

Jaemin nodded, his small hand gripping Jimin's tightly. "And we'll always be together , right?"

Jimin smiled, squeezing his hand back. "Always and forever brother."

The orphanage had changed little over the years. The same worn-out wooden benches, the same creaky floors, and the same faces, albeit a bit older. Park Jaemin, now fourteen, sat in the same corner where he and his twin Jimin used to play, clutching a tattered stuffed bear—a gift from Jimin from years ago.

Today, however, was different. The air was heavy with an unspoken tension. The news had spread quickly: Park Jimin was being adopted. A family had come, well-dressed and kind-looking, eager to welcome Jimin into their home. It was Min family, But with this new beginning came an unexpected and painful end.

Jimin, usually so vibrant, stood rigidly by the doorway, his eyes not meeting Jaemin's. The silence between them was deafening. Jaemin's heart pounded in his chest, fear and confusion swirling inside him. He forced a smile, trying to mask the hurt.

"Jimin, isn't it wonderful? You're finally getting a family," Jaemin said, his voice trembling despite his efforts to sound cheerful.

Jimin's expression hardened, a coldness in his eyes that Jaemin had never seen before. "It's not like that, Jaemin ," he replied, his voice devoid of the warmth that used to define their brotherly bond. "I... I can't be  with you anymore."

Jaemin felt as if the ground had been ripped from beneath him. "What? Why? We promised... always and forever, remember?"

Jimin took a deep breath, his gaze finally meeting his twin brother. "Things are different now. I have a new family, a new life. I can't be held back by the past. And you... you just don't fit into that future."
