Perspective is an interesting thing. How do you see yourself? How do other people see you? How do you see others? It's a scary thing to not know, but the amazing thing about perspective is that it can always change.

The Bowers gang was a group of delinquents who terrorized the children in derry. Everyone's perspective of them is sad to see. "they're heartless" "they only care about themselves" "they are pure evil". These are the common phrases said about this group of boys. I don't think anyone has ever got the chance to truly understand these boys.

Della Nowak was a normal teenager. Everyone seemed to have a positive perspective on her. "she's so lovely" "she always helps me out" "I can always count on Della". Are incredibly common things to hear about her. She carried herself high and others found her to be a very confident person. But most of their perspectives were very wrong. Della did have a broken family like many. Her dad had immigrated from Poland to the U.S on a work visa and had met her mother. Her mother was a hairstylist who always had a positive outlook. Behind closed doors this was not the case. Dellas mother had a severe drinking problem which caused many lash-outs on not only Della but her father as well. Eventually it had become too much for the broken man and he had left for a work trip and never returned leaving Della to fend for herself. Her mom tried to be an active parent after her father left but she wasn't very successful. Della had loaded up on extra curriculares just to escape being home. Dance was her favorite. Her grandmother was an amazing ballerina and Dellas mother had the same expectations for her. Della was incredibly talented but she hated ballet, she felt so insecure about her abilities , her not typical ballerina look, and even her equipment. Her mother wanted all these things for her but never had the money to get her newer pointe shoes. She'd go months with old worn out shoes until the studio had provided her new ones. She hated ballet. However she loved lyrical and contemporary, she wanted to tell stories through dance and she personally thought she was the best at it.

Della's confidence in anything seemed like a big facade to her. Her mother only focused on beauty and was constantly finding ways for Della to be the most desirable on the outside. She always wanted Della to be on any guys shoulder. She told her everyday that she didn't want the same outcome that her mother had with her father. However beauty wasn't the problem. She knew deep down what the problem was but never had the guts to admit it. Della didn't want to be alluring, she wanted someone who loved her for who she was and all she came with. She never thought she'd find love in Derry until one boy changed her whole perspective.
