The Wrong Ryan

Spencer had been accused on more than one occasion of being boy-crazy. It was something that he could admit but that he found hard to change. His friend Allison was usually more than happy to hear about whatever delusions he cooked up in his head that week but this particular night she was much too excited about her first party and he was ruining the vibe. She thought she saw the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone and took it. As it turns out, in all her excitement she made a grave error.

"What did you just do," Spencer whispered angrily as the group watched them. No sooner did the words leave her mouth than he pulled her up and dragged her to a corner. Cognizant of their stares, he shifted slightly so they couldn't see how brightly his face burned.

"I helped you. You keep going on and on about Ryan-"

"Carter. I keep going on and on about Ryan Carter," he said slowly giving her alcohol-idled mind time to catch up with what she'd done. They both turned slowly looking to Ryan Peters who sat just outside the circle of teens and was staring back at them.

"Oh, that's bad," she said looking at him guiltily but it was already too late.

"We don't have all day," Joe said waving them both back to their spots on the ground. They obliged reluctantly and Ryan's eyes never left Spencer. Some of the girls in the group seemed to notice this and glared in his direction. He would've told them that he could trade places with them if they liked but there was no use because the dare had been made and, for some reason that Spencer did not understand, Ryan never said no.

It wasn't the first time that someone had made a dare of this nature. In fact, it happened so often that there were 2 rules: only one person could ask per session and it couldn't last more than a week. It was only unfortunate for Spencer that Allison had the first turn of the game.

"It doesn't have to be long. Not even a full week only like three days," Allison said trying to walk back her mistake but when she turned to Spencer his eyes were bulging. If she was thinking clearly she could've easily asked for the dare to be over that same night and now he was going to be stuck with Ryan for 3 days.

"Three days it is," Joe chuckled looking to Ryan who he knew would not refuse, and a wide grin spread across his face like he got the best idea "No time like the present," he said. Spencer had never much liked Ryan's best friend Joe and this was certainly not helping his case.

Before Spencer could protest Ryan stood and nodded his head toward the door. He exited without looking back expecting Spencer to follow as did the rest of the group who only stared at him wondering why he wasn't gone yet. Allison mumbled an apology as Spencer stood with a huff working up the courage to follow Ryan down the hall.

He had been in this house before, going to the parties that Allison refused without her, but he had never gone to any room he wasn't led to. As they ascended the steps he was sure that this area of the house must've been off-limits but Ryan kept on as though he knew where he was going.

It occurred to Spencer as Ryan opened a door on the left that he had no idea whose house they were in. It was very minimally decorated and there were no pictures or identifying markers to show who it belonged to. Normally he just tagged along with other friends when there was a party held and did not care much for who was throwing it.

He got his answer though when they stepped into the space and was hit with a rush of cologne that smelled just like the boy beside him.

That and there was a giant poster of Ryan above the desk by the window.

He glanced over to Ryan but found that he was not there instead he had taken up residence on a bed in the corner. He patted the space next to him and Spencer swallowed. It all hit him very suddenly that he was alone in a room with Ryan Peters.
