Minhee should be home any minute. Jisu is seated at the edge of their couch, leg bouncing furiously as she chews on her bottom lip. Any time, now. Minhee will burst through the door and greet Jisu how she always does. An enthusiastic good evening and something about how Jisu is still awake. It's only eight, she doesn't go to sleep that early.Especially tonight. She cannot try and bring herself to sleep even if she tried, not unless she had done what she felt needs to be done. Something she knows she will need Minhee here for. Of course, her roommate will help her. She knows the answer to everything.
This, for sure.
There's shuffling behind the front door. Jisu's head whips towards the foyer, darting up from the couch and almost tweaking her ankle in the process as she dashes towards the door.
As soon as she makes it, the door swings open. Minhee's eyes land on her immediately, halting in her steps. She blinks. Jisu mirrors her actions, blinking back, hands making their way to her hips.
"Hey?" Nothing enthusiastic about her greeting tonight. Jisu doesn't blame her, not when she's already crowding her at the door way.
"Hey, you," Jisu greets back, a toothy grin spreading across her round features. "I was just thinking about you! It's about time you've returned, come in, the air conditioning is on."
The door closes behind them as Minhee wordlessly toes her shoes off. Jisu takes in her appearance; loose sweatpants and a compression shirt. The frizz of Minhee's noticeably damp hair is a telling sign that she's showered after coming from the gym. She sets her backpack down, then meets Jisu's eyes again.
"So..? What's going on—you're—" Minhee rubs her chin. "I don't know. Something's up."
"Oh? Only thing that's up is whatever the hell is going on here," Jisu has to tiptoe slightly to smoothen the slight mess that Minhee's hair had become. So soft. Running her fingers through her hair is probably one of her favorite things to do. "Silly girl. You need me to tend to you like a mother cat sometimes."
Minhee's brow arches slowly, wrapping her fingers around Jisu's wrist to bring her hand down. "Okay, that's enough," she says. "Spit it out."
"Spit what out?"
"Whatever it is, you weirdo," Minhee hums and walks into the living room. Jisu follows her with a slight grin. "You've never greeted me right at the door like that."
"I'm just happy to see you! You're my best friend, you know," Jisu says through a pout, eyes still set on Minhee. Her palms grow clammy. "You're gone for most of the day and when you come back, I'm most likely asleep. It's like I'm living with a—hey, what are you doing?"
"Observing," Minhee lifts their remote up to inspect. "You probably broke something."
"Hey!" Jisu gasps. "I did not."
"It's like you're living with a what?" Minhee lifts her stare to tilt her head at Jisu. "What was that?"
Jisu rolls her eyes. She rocks on her feet before ultimately turning to sit back down on the couch. "You're like a stranger sometimes. I'm feeling very Minhee-deprived right now."
The other woman snorts. "Maybe if you didn't go to sleep at dinner time every single day, we'd have time to talk."
"Well, I'm not asleep now, am I?" Jisu scoffs lightly.
Minhee seems to have approved of everything remaining untouched, but still strolls around the coffee table to tease. Like Jisu was even capable of breaking anything in the first place. She stays quiet, watching as the taller makes her way back around and takes the spot next to her on the couch.
