Slowly, Paing stroke his brush on that round canvas, before moving back a bit to make a distance for him to have a better look at his own painting. Subsconciously, his lips curved into a wide smile, happy that he had finished his painting at last, a hobby that so hard for him to stop once he got started. However, as a painter, he couldn't help but wondered if he should add more to his painting and make it more appealing. He was still debating with his own self regarding the matter when he suddenly heard the front door to that house was opened, and immediately knew that Bright was back from meeting someone.
"So? How was your blind date?" Asked Paing with a smile, praying that his brother would bring home the good news. Bright was excited about it. But somehow, judging from his expression at that moment, it didn't seem go well as he wanted.
"It's a disaster, Phi." Bright replied, throwing his sling bag onto the couch and slumped his body next to it. "I couldn't stand him. He is so cocky, talking about his achievements and wealth most of the time. As if like I care if he is rich and well known..." He scoffed. "And that's not all, Phi. He tried to touch me inappropriately from time to time, it scared the hell out of me."
"I'm sorry....what did you say? Who the hell is this man?! Tell me his name and his address. It's better if you just give me his phone number as well. I need to teach him a lesson for taking advantage on my brother." Paing immediately jolted up from the floor and marched towards Bright, his one and only brother as well as his one and only family.
Bright shook his head. "No. I won't give it to you. You're going to hurt him and I don't like it." He said to his brother who he always looked up to because he was raised by him alone. Not just behaving like a brother, but his brother was the father figure as well. Without Paing, he didn't even know if he would live a good life as an orphan.
"So, you rather have him getting so touchy? I don't like it, Bright." Paing growled.
"I don't like it either. But, we're not going to see each other ever again. So, why bother giving him a lesson when he will never be in our life?" Bright retorted. "Besides, I don't want getting you into trouble, Phi. What will happen to me if you are put behind bars for hurting that pervert?" He pouted at his brother, wishing that his overprotective brother would not act on impulse. He should think more about the consequences of his action especially towards his own little brother.
Paing sighed as he pulled Bright up and to his chest and hugged his brother firmly. "I'm sorry....but you know me. I can't see my brother getting hurt by anyone even by your own friend. So, anyone who did that, accidental or not, I will return the favour to avenge you."
"Thank you, Phi...but let me deal the matter in my own way first. You know how much I hate violent."
Paing chuckled. "You're too soft. I hope, whoever that gets to be your boyfriend will not walk all over you because of it." He released his brother and patted his head, then went back to his painting.
Bright followed the elder and sat down next to him. "Phi...talking about boyfriend, do you have one?"
"Not at the moment. I don't have time for love. I mean not right now. Maybe after you have someone by your side, then only I'll try to find one for me." Paing retorted. "So, I don't have to worry about you that much because someone else will be there to protect you."
"Again...you prioritize me over your own happiness. I don't like it, Phi." Bright huffed as he laid his head on Paing's bulky thigh. "I'm not a little boy for you to look after anymore. Do you think I'm happy, seeing you devoted your life to me? What if, I've failed, finding a boyfriend, do you want to sacrifice your own happiness for me as well?"
"Maybe I will...because I don't have anyone as my partner."
"But what if, during that time, there is someone who is interested in you, and vice versa? Are you going to let that person go because of me?" Bright questioned his brother.
"I will do what I have to do."
Another long heavy sigh was emitted from Bright's lips. "I love you, Phi. And I am so grateful that you will sacrifice yourself for me. But please don't. Your happiness is my happiness too. I can't be happy if you're not."
Paing stopped painting and diverted his gaze to his brother. "Then, what do you want me to do?"
"Please don't hesitate to fall in love. If you do like someone, proceed to pursue that person." Bright said with a smile. "Don't worry about me. I will find my own happiness. I just need to find the right one for me."
"Okay, if you say so. But....if that happens, I will not proceed until you have approved of my choice. Agree?"
Bright simpered. "Why do you need my approval?"
"Because I don't want my partner to get between us and drive us apart. I want both of you to get along well, so we will live happily together." Said Paing his reason.
"I guess....I have to do the same too." Bright replied while staring at Paing's new painting.
"You should. It's important to me, so I know if he is willing to protect you at all cost." Paing said, pinching Bright's cheek lightly.
"Phi...." Bright piped out after being silent for about a few minutes.
"Yeah...."
"I think, I have a crush on someone whom I met recently." Bright confessed.
"You did? Anyone I know?"
Bright shook his head.
"Who is he?"
"Man Trisanu." Bright mumbled softly while thinking about the unexpected meeting that happened recently.
