DAPHNE'S POV
I'm in the boys' room, rummaging through Blaise's things.
No, I'm not crazy.
At least I don't think I am.
But I'm doing this for a good cause: to make sure he's not with any other girl so I can try again with him.
I'm sure my friends would kill me if they found out what I'm planning, especially Emily. She doesn't support my relationship with him at all because she knows how badly I felt when he cheated on me.
But she's not one to talk either; after all, she's sneaking around with Theo when we all know how much she likes Malfoy.
Well, at least I know because I know her.
You just have to pay a little attention to see how she frowns when he's affectionate with Pansy or the looks they exchange at breakfast sometimes when they're not biting each other's heads off—looks that only they understand.
If I had such obvious chemistry with someone, I wouldn't hesitate to try something.
It must hurt Pansy, though; she may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but she's not dumb either.
And anyone can see the connection between Emily and Draco.
While my hand is in a drawer full of... underwear?, trying to find something that belongs to another girl or some clue that indicates he's with someone else, I'm so lost in my thoughts that I don't realize I've left the door wide open.
And having seen so many movies, yes, you might not expect it when you first meet me, but I love cinema, someone had to walk in.
Only, not being in a movie, I didn't expect it to happen.
So when it does, I'm startled.
A lot.
"Fucking hell!" I scream, jumping a bit as I see Theodore Nott walk through the door, putting on his shirt with an almost scary scowl.
Before he notices my presence, he kicks a chair and sits on the bed, putting his face in his hands and letting out a low growl.
"Fuck."
To let him know I'm there, I clear my throat.
What?
I don't know what else to do.
The brunette quickly sees me and gets up from the bed, running a hand over his face in desperation.
He doesn't say anything as he slowly walks to the door, looking down.
We never got along much, neither good nor bad.
At the end of the day, he's Emily's toy.
They've been friends since second year, and I didn't start hanging out with her until the end of the third.
I have to admit, she scared me a bit at first.
Now she's my best friend, but I would never have expected that when I met her.
Confident, haughty, and somewhat arrogant, Emily always has something to say.
And she makes herself heard.
That's something I love about her, so I decided to incorporate it a bit into myself, and it has worked well so far.
It has even made us better friends.
Since Theo isn't going to say anything, I decide to speak before he can leave. I want to know what's wrong to tell Em, and I suspect it might have something to do with her.
I mean, they had rushed into our room this morning, forcing the rest of us to find something to do until breakfast.
It isn't unusual for them to do that, so I guess it's fine.
"Theo, are you okay?"
He looks at me, seeming on the verge of tears. I don't know what's going on, but it must be something serious because I've never seen him like this.
He answers me with another question, one that leaves me somewhat worried.
"Is Emily doing Malfoy?"
"What?" I ask, genuinely surprised.
"You heard me. Is Emily fucking Malfoy?"
"No, of course not. For God's sake, Theo, Emily is with you, and you know Draco and she can barely stand each other."
It's true.
Despite their chemistry and good relationship, things haven't been flowing well lately.
They spend half the day fighting and the other half thinking about how to annoy each other. Besides, Emily would tell me if she were hooking up with the blond.
"Then can you fucking explain why she just moaned his name while I was fucking her?" he says suddenly, bluntly.
Theo isn't usually like this; he's much more delicate than Draco when it comes to talking about sex.
But it seems that side of him is hidden at the moment.
"What are you talking about?"
"Daphne, don't mess with me. I was with Emily just now, and she just blurted out Draco's name while trembling like a fucking leaf."
Oh. My. God.
"Err, maybe you misheard?"
I notice he clenches his fists, starting to get angry.
"No, believe me, I heard her perfectly."
I know I have to defend Emily unconditionally, but I don't know what to say right now.
How could she screw up so badly?
"Well, as far as I know, no, she doesn't have anything with Malfoy. And believe me, I don't think she does." I say, trying to sound convincing, although I know that despite denying it, Emily, like any of the thousand girls chasing after him, is probably dying for him.
Only she has something the others don't: his friendship, his respect, and above all, his admiration.
If the guy feels anything for Emily, it's definitely admiration. Just look at how he gazes at her, as if she were perfect.
Yes, I think Emily is perfection in his eyes.
In case you haven't noticed, I'm also very observant.
"I don't know what the fuck to do. I think I'm going to end things with her."
"What?"
"What do you expect me to do? Pretend nothing happened? Seriously, Daph, she went too far. I asked her clearly, and she said she didn't like Malfoy, and look..."
His voice starts to tremble; I don't know if from sadness or anger.
I approach him and hug him.
I don't know what Emily would think of this, but honestly, she just messed up, and she can't blame me for trying to help fix what she is constantly breaking.
