Alison's POV

My hand flying back behind me slams one of the heavy doors in the cells closed as I stomp into the small room. Anxious knocks immediately sound from the other side of the magically locked door.

"Alison, let us in." Cameron begs.

I'm too distraught to heed his request. On top of everything else, there's now another vampire for me to be directly responsible for. No matter what happens with Adrian, I will be blamed for it.

He could be a spy for the other side or just a go between for the real spy, Marta, and Petar. We have no way of knowing what he intends to do here. I don't have much of a choice.

The door opening againing prompts Chris and Cam to step away from it. I walk through it and right past them in silence.

"Alison?" Chris tries for my attention as they hurriedly follow behind me. "What are you going to do? We have to talk about this."

If the world were perfect, he'd be right. I would need to talk to them before taking my next steps. I probably should anyway but, right now, in this world, everyone else in this situation is looking to me for leadership. I know what I need to do, it's harsh, and I don't want to be talked out of it.

Nadia, Maggie, and Ana step off the wall as I cross the lobby like area of the cells, also following me down two levels. We only wait another minute or two before the elevator dings again. Three sweaty vampires haul in a boulder sporting a head with an unamused face sprouting from the top.

"Put him in that one." I point to the nearest cell. Guilty eyes avoid me as they follow my command. No one new steps up to help. In fact, Andrew steps away to stand next to Nadia, whispering something to her. They're just as pissed as I am.

Marta and Violet set the heavy mass down with a thud. They both huff slightly before stepping towards the open doorway. "Stop." My voice halts them mid step.

I feel everyone around me freeze, questioning my intentions. I only look to Violet. "How much did you know?"

Her eyes widen. We all usually baby her. I don't know why, I just got the impression that she's a little special and needs allowances and went with it. I've never spoken to her this way. This is what lying to me gets you.

"She didn't know anything." Marta speaks for her. "If there is anyone to be mad at, it's me."

I scoff scornfully. "If  there is someone to be mad at? Did you honestly think that I wouldn't be mad? Are you that stupid? Do you think that I'm that stupid?" My words fire like a machine gun, fast and loud.

She shakes her head submissively. "No. I was trying to help but-"

"Help?" I laugh dryly, cutting her off. "You went behind my back, everyone's back, to meet with someone who recently tried to kill some of us. And I think that you included Violet in your lies. Why would you put her in that position?"

No one interferes. There is no devils advocate trying to convince me to calm down. Even Violet doesn't return the favor and come to her aid, not that anyone would expect her to.

"I didn't." Marta bites out. I can see her muscles tensing at the implication that she harmed Violet in anyway. "She suspected something and she questioned me, but, I refused to tell her anything. She's my bestfriend but she doesn't need to be in danger with me."

It's difficult to be a big person and admire her protectiveness but I manage. "Fine, then I suppose she doesn't need to spend the night locked in here with him." I state, stepping aside for Violet to step out.
