HARRIET
To recap, when we got to the mall we had no idea what to do so we took Milena out for ice cream while I explained the whole situation to Kate.
"Well? What are we doing here? Let's spend his money" She says as if it's the most normal thing in the world.
"It's not that simple, and something seems to be wrong with his conversation" I say because I still had my suspicions.
"What's the worst that can happen?" She asks crossing her arms
"I don't know Kate, it's Adrien Moreau we're talking about, anything involving him is the worst that can happen" I say and she gives Milena a suspicious look and I realize what she means.
Don't get me wrong, I love my daughter and she's the best thing that's ever happened to me, the only things about her that I don't love is the way she was conceived and who she was conceived with, both not her fault.
"Okay, fine, maybe it's not the worst thing that could happen but it's still weird. And why the hell should I dress better than normal if I'm going as an assistant not as a personal w-h-o-r-e?" I say spelling it out for Milena.
"Come on Hennie, it's not your money, you can buy whatever you want, besides he's literally paying you to go to dinner with him, a bit desperate in my opinion." She says and I roll my eyes.
"You're seeing things where they aren't, I find the part about it being a business dinner and personal assistants going strange? Yes. But I don't think it's a date either. It's more likely that he's trying to embarrass me, like being an old card and embarrassing me in some store or him not showing up and me looking like a fool waiting for him." I say, although I have to admit I was traveling a bit too far.
"Wow, you know that anyone who hears about it thinks he's done any of those things to you. Come on, Mile's finished her ice cream, now let's get you hot, if you don't use his card I'll pay." She says knowing that I would never accept her paying for clothes on this occasion.
We go into some stores and have a look around, I take the opportunity to warn you that I'm the worst person to go shopping with, I just hate it, physically it's horrible, trying on clothes in those tiny fitting rooms with five hundred lights boiling at you in a mirror that makes you put on twenty kilos, I hate it, that's it, but just because Kate and Lena were enthusiastic, I let it go.
"Kate, I'm not wearing that, I can't even walk in it." I say when she shows me some high heels.
"You're impossible, if you don't want anything I choose, you tell me what you want." She says
"I'm going to wear a long, simple, professional dress that doesn't cost a fortune, high shoes, but not too high, and a handbag that doesn't attract attention. That's what I want. No more, no less, I'm not a teenager going out." I say and she and Milena look at me with bored faces.
"Boring" Kate says. "But okay."
We walk around a bit more and I end up buying what I wanted, but I didn't use his card despite Kate's insistence, but I already had shoes and a handbag at home, I wasn't going to use a black card to buy a 20 dollar dress.
We go home and Kate volunteers to look after Milena while I go to dinner. After getting ready I go into the living room to see if Kate is making dinner for them and she looks at me like wow.
"I swear, only you can look that sexy with 20 dollars and a dream" she says and I laugh and roll my eyes.
"Mommy, where are you going?" She asks because she's probably never seen me so dressed up for anything but before I can answer Kate jumps in.
