❝ half heaven, half hell! ❞

IT WAS ONE OF THOSE rare times when Rosalie wasn't the first person up. Usually, the Monet could be found in the kitchen during the early hours of the day. The Originals often woke up to the aromatic scent of freshly brewed coffee and whatever she decided to fry on the pan, which only made them love her more.
Kol had taken to calling her 'mom' a few mornings when he felt extra mischievous, much to Rosalie's amusement.
But this time, she was the third person to enter the kitchen. What was more surprising was to see Elijah standing by the stove, cooking whilst wearing a full suit.
"Good morning," Elijah greeted her, frying something on the pan. Rosalie smiled, eyes still puffy, and returned the greeting. She peered by his shoulder, discovering that it was actually scrambled eggs.
"I have to warn you: Niklaus is in a foul mood. Perhaps you can give him a smile to return him back to his old jolly self."
Rosalie turned her attention to the brooding hybrid at the counter, looking like he'd seen better days. Her cheeks inadvertently heated, finding something strangely attractive (more so than usual) about his rugged look.
His jaw had more than a days worth of scruff, as he hadn't shaved this morning. The dark blonde curls looked like he had ran his fingers through it multiple times. His lack of sleep showed on his eyebags, making Rosalie's worry increase.
"Sod off, Elijah." He grumbled. Nik's eyes softened when he found her looking at him with a questioning look. The hybrid shook his head slightly, explaining, "Just a dream."
"Welcome to the club." Rosalie mumbled. A moment passed between them as they held eye contact, doning small matching smiles. The brunette felt that same warmth in her chest she felt when they had interactions like this. It was a feeling she missed not nearly as much as the man who gave her butterflies.
Their night under Paradis Trouvé had reawakened their bond, though it was spent mostly in silence. Even Nik couldn't bring himself to feel regret over making her feel just a little bit lighter.
Stop it, he reminded himself. There was a reason he was setting up walls, and it was for the benefit of her. Nik looked away, suddenly focused on stirring his coffee.
She poured herself a cup of her own, adding milk and sugar to her preference. The Monet took a sipㅡheaven.
Rosalie hummed in delight, taking another gulp. Unable to resist, Nik's gaze drifted to herㅡGod, she was so beautiful. His longing look was interrupted when his sister, who he didn't even notice walk in the kitchen, neared the Monet.
"Good morning, Bekah," Rosalie said softly, smiling when the blonde pressed a kiss to her cheek.
Rebekah raised an eyebrow at the hybrid's state, "Looks like someone else woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Don't tell me you had a bad dream too."
