A Ride To Remember

New Life

'' Okay when we get out people are going to try and introduce themselves , just be polite and grab your stuff , Oh ! do you need help unpacking?'' Carrie was quite annoyed '' No it's good '' She stepped out of the truck and felt something gooey surrounding her toes . '' Eww oh my gosh '' . Her open toed wedges were now ruined with what looked like mud . From the car to the house her aunt lived in was about 20 feet away . '' Voy a tener sus cajas '' A middle aged man shouted at her . '' He said he has your boxes! '' Some one else yelled at her . '' O-oh thankyou '' She walked to the door and took off her now ruined shoes . '' Wow '' she said as she walked through the door and into the foyer . Walking to the room that was empty she was caught by surprise by a huge dog . The dog knocked her over and she dropped her phone. Quickly picking it up without checking on it , she got up entered the room and set her box on the huge king bed in the corner of the large room. There was a note on the desk next to a pair of boots . You'll be needing these.

''Wow , a little late now '' she said to herself. Putting them on and walking out the door to the porch , the dog following her out . She hopped down the stairs with the fat grey dog at her heels . '' Well , he seems to like ya . He don't like anyone no more .'' The man was handsome but older '' Im Dan , your , uhm uncle ''Ah ! Mari's husband ? '' Nice to meet you , and yeah he's been following me around '' She said . ''Here could you come with me? You should meet some people.'' Carrie followed him over to a round fence with men on horses inside. '' Guys! Come ova' here , meet my neice. She just moved up 'ere from uh , the big apple? Is that right? '' '' Yeah , New York .'' There was about 4 men in between 30-45 . Must be farm hands . '' I have to go unpack '' '' Okay nice meeting you '' Carrie started walking towards the house . They must have thought she was deaf because she could hear them '' Yeah my old lady's sista' got herself killed so shes stuck with us .'' Carrie started running to the house , holding her tears back until she was in her room . She let her tears out but they just ran down her cheeks. Unpacking her pictures and magazines first , she picked up a picture of her and her mom . The sighed and sat on the bed for a while before finishing unpacking, reminiscing . After her pictures were on the wall , her sheets on her bed , and her clothes in her closet , she layed on her bed and fell asleep .

Mom was in the kitchen making dinner so I went and found dad . '' Heyy dad can you take me to the store?'' He , being him , said yes and wewent and got in the car . '' What do you need?'' '' Some shoes .'' We arrived at the mall she went in got the shoes and came back out to dad . He was just reading . '' Ok I got em , heres your card back.'' We drove back home and all sat down ate dinner and watched tv . Carrie woke up , smiling , for the first time in a really long time. '' what a stupid dream '' she was pissed .

It was 2:30 and her aunt asked her to gather eggs . She slipped on the boots and grabbed a sweater. As Carrie walked out of her room she saw a picture in the foyer of her mom . Its been 3 weeks , but Carrie was really over her parents death somehow, or she thought so. She went outside and it was hot as hell , '' For sure not New York weather '' . She threw the sweater inside and ran out . She walked over to Mari and asked if they could go to the store. '' Just drive the truck , and be back by 4 '' '' Whoa ! Thanks so much byee .'' Carrie was surprised that she was allowed to drive but she went ahead with it anyway , even though it felt like a bad idea .

She ran into Walmart and picked up a blue nail polish . '' That's gonna be 1.45$ '' Carrie thought he was really cute and I guess he thought she was too , cause when she got the receipt his number was on the back. '' Call me we can go get coffee or something '' She didn't reply she just walked out .

When she got to the ranch she ran inside and called the number . '' Hey its Gabe leave a message '' ''Uh i'll go to coffee im at the Stover ranch meet me at 1 o'clock '' She was hesitant because boys were a new thing for her. She painted her nails and did her makeup . It was 12:27 and she was kinda excited for this , date thing. She put her clothes on and went to the living room to wait . A boy was watching tv on the couch . '' Wow '' He said '' I'm mike , and you must be beautiful .'' She was disgusted . ''Actually no , I'm your cousin '' She walked past him and went outside to wait . A pickup truck pulled up and she got in '' Hey thanks '' The ride to the coffee shop was very quiet ."Where did ya grow up?'' '' New York '' '' Hey! Me too!'' She knew they were gonna get along. '' Were here .'

They sat at a small table and talked for a while . Carrie ordered black coffee and Gabe ordered a carmel frappe. They talked for about 30 minutes . She checked the time , 5:30 . Crap! '' We should get going , it was fun Carrie '' '' Yeah I was supposed to be home an hour ago '' Gabe dropped her off and got super weird . '' I-I-I-I , O-ok bye '' '' bye?'' Gabe sped off and Carrie went inside and saw her aunt and uncle sitting in the living room . '' Where the hell have you been ?!'' they yelled at her . " You also forgot the eggs! " Mike chimed in .
