"Rani!"
She heard her father calling her. She quickly cut the last thread and tied a knot. She hurriedly walked towards her father, clutching the fabric in her hands as her anklets and bangles tinkled in rhythm matching her pace.
Her father talked to her about the alliance Nandan bought.
Mr. Dev is a cousin of Nandan, a lawyer by profession who took immense liking towards Devi when he heard her heroic tale of ghosting the devils that leeched humanity."What do you want to do, Rani?" Her father gently questioned her, patting her head.
Her eyes gleamed as she showed him the art she did. The cream fabric is embroidered with joyful faces of Devi and her father with elegant swans and beautiful lotuses in the background. A scenic enchanted that captures your heart.
Her father's eyes softened as he adored and recognised the artist in his daughter. He brought her closer and embraced her. She withheld her tears of happiness.
"Does he also have cold feet?" She managed to ask her father.
"No. But he has someone in his heart," replied her father with a teasing smile.
Her face changed, saddened with a tint of red.
"Don't you want to know who it is?" Asked her father.
Before she could give a reply, he answered her worries.
"Well, it's Devi who is keeping Mr. Dev busy, is what I had heard."
Devi's face flushed after listening to her father. She ran and hid herself in her room as hers and her father's hearts brimmed with happiness.
A Year Later
Soon the blue hues were replaced by the blazing red and oranges in the sky. The sun sang his goodbyes for the day along with his feathery friends. Across the field near the pond that was blooming with lotuses, sat a young woman with radiant eyes as she admired the bright lotuses.
She dangled her feet, which were beautifully adorned in red dye with intricate designs. Her anklets dazzled, making a symphony of jingles as the water below glistened.
A few months ago, she hated the sound of those anklets as they made her feel restrained and caged. She hated that she could be heard, the rhythm along with the piercing eyes that followed her wherever she went.
But now she loves the tune of her anklets, the ones that helped her gain wings, the anklets that embraced her femininity, retold her the power it holds, the capabilities she had long forgotten.
The very old anklets that brought BHAGYA to her.
She read the letter once again, and much to her satisfaction, she is living her surreal dream. In a few hours she will be leaving for Mumbai to work along with Nandan and Bhagya.
She stared at the flowing river that reminded her of her life.
Thanks to him, she found her destined happiness.
She stood up to leave when the sky was cast by the mystical spells of the clouds. The blessings of the month of Shravan as the first showers drizzled. She heard someone calling her.
She slowly came out from the canopy of trees, and the raindrops gently grazed her. But soon a dark shadow covered her, and rain stopped touching her. She glanced at the one responsible for this as a familiar, concerned face welcomed her with the voice she chose to listen to for the rest of her life.
"Devi"
