The evening passed quickly. After dinner, Nisha dropped me off at the hospital.

"I need the scooter for the night," she said before leaving.

As I walked toward the entrance, I saw an ambulance rushing into the emergency area with its siren blaring. It was time to begin my shift. I still had 20 minutes before my duty officially started, but I didn't wait. I went straight to the changing room, washed my hands, and put on my white coat.

The senior doctor was still having his dinner. "You attend to the case," he told me.

I walked into the casualty ward and saw a woman with blood flowing from multiple wounds. One of her arms was hanging limply, and there was a deep cut on her back, likely from a sharp knife. Her neck was also heavily injured.

I instructed the nurses to clean her wounds. The woman was unconscious. As I took her hand to check her veins, she suddenly regained consciousness and screamed, "Betaaa..."

I was confused and couldn't understand what had happened to her. Although her injuries were serious, they were treatable with time.

The senior doctor arrived after his meal and began examining her. Suddenly, an attendant came and informed us, "Ma'am, the police are waiting."

The senior doctor told me to handle them. I walked to the police but noticed a woman standing outside the door, looking anxious. I guessed she might be related to the injured woman. Instead of going to the police, I approached her.

"What happened?" I asked.

"She's my neighbor," the woman replied. "No one else was at her house except her son. I saw him go inside, and after a while, she started screaming. I ran over, but he had already left."

Her words left me disappointed. Her son? I went to the police and informed them, "The lady is not conscious yet. She can't speak."

"Let us know when she can talk," they replied.

I returned to the casualty ward. The nurses had cleaned the woman's wounds, and the senior doctor instructed me to stitch her hand.

After finishing the procedure, I went to the cabin. It was 10 PM, and fatigue was setting in. Sleep was tempting, but I had to stay awake.
