Prologue

"Muichiro I'll be right back, stay here"

Muichiro nodded and watched as his mother walked away to another part of the store. he thought she would only be gone for a few minutes, but minutes turned in too hours all too quickly, he sat there gazing at all the people bustling around the store. several times he thought he saw his mother, but they turned out to be random strangers. he stayed hopeful that his mother would come back soon but the dark thought that maybe she had forgotten about him creeped into his mind

Maybe she forgot about me and left me here?

tears started to prick at his eyes as he thought that. he brought his knees up to his chest and squeezed his eyes shut as he tried to push himself against the clothing shelf. 

Mama was tired from work when she brought me to the store, I needed new shoes since I lost one while I was playing with Yuichiro in the park, she was probably so tired she forgot me

he continued to cry softly until he heard a voice

"Are you ok? why are you crying?"

Muichiro looked up slowly blinking away some of his tears, in front of him stood a boy around his age maybe a year older, concern washed over his crimson eyes as he crouched in front of Muichiro, he had reddish hair and was wearing a green and black checkered shirt.

"m-my-I-I can't find m-my mama" Muichiro sobbed "s-she's been g-gone f-for a w-while I *hic* t-think she f-forgot a-about m-me" Muichiro cried harder at the last sentence, teras filling his eyes So he couldn't see

Tanjiro reached out to hug the small boy, he pulled away after a bit and pulled him up

"I can ask my dad if he can help you find your mama" Tanjiro said reassuringly

"r-really?" Muichiro said

"yeah! by the way what's your name? I'm Tanjiro!"

"M-Muichiro"

Tanjiro smiled, bright as the sun "Ok my dad is over here he can help you find your mom!"

Muichiro nodded and allowed Tanjiro to pull him towards his dad, Tanjiro's dad looked like him but with longer hair and older, he was wearing a set of earrings with a red sun on them. Tanjiro's dad looked over to where Tanjiro was, he was pulling a small boy with long black hair and teal tips towards him, the boy's face was red and blotchy and there were tear tracks running down his face

"Tanjiro who's this?" he asked

"Daddy this is Muichiro, he lost his mama and can't find her"

Tanjiro's dad crouched down, so he was on Muichiro's level, meeting his teary gaze with concerned eyes

"Muichiro? what your last name and when did you last see your mom?"

"I-I can't remember what my last name is" he said worriedly on the verge of more tears "I think it was hours ago that I saw her, it's almost nighttime now, I came with her when the sun was still out" Muichiro explained

Tanjiro gazed pleadingly at his dad to help Muichiro

"let's go to the front desk and see if your mom is somewhere in the store, ok?" Tanjiro's dad said with a reassuring smile"

he led both boys to the front desk and they made an announcement to the store over the intercom, Muichiro counted the minutes hoping that his mom would turn up but, nothing.
