Chapter 4
===================================================
I remember it was one of the worst days of my life-No definitely the worst day of my life, everything changed after that. Usually, your memories from when you're a child are fuzzy and you remember bits and pieces, but this has been imprinted in my mind for nine years. I was home alone with my father. he was preparing dinner humming to himself, and we were waiting for everyone else to get home. I was at the table trying to draw a bird I saw outside earlier, periodically I showed my progress to my dad who always commented how good it was and to show everyone when they got home. I remember Dad's phone started to ring and he picked up his phone. I looked up from my drawing as I heard a clatter, he 'd dropped the spoon that he was holding when he saw the call was from the hospital. I watched as he shakily raised the phone to his ear and said an even shakier "H-hello?"
"We're very sorry, but there's been an accident, your wife was in a crash, and we've admitted her into the Emergency Room."
When he heard the words the person on the other end was speaking, he immediately grabbed me and frantically called my grandpa to drive us there, since obviously we didn't have a car. he fumbled with my shoes and eventually just left me with one as grandpa pulled up to the front of the house. My dad had always been a calm person, his red eyes usually reflected nothing but love and happiness, but in that moment, they darkened with a fear I had never seen before, I had no idea what was going on, I was only five and I was so confused why one moment everything was normal and the next My dad was yelling at grandpa to drive, as he buckled my car seat. The whole ride there, grandpa was asking questions like what happened to which my dad just shakily responded "I don't know."
When we arrived at the hospital, he didn't even care if the car was still moving or not, he just unbuckled me and waved goodbye to grandpa before bursting through the doors of the looming building, clutching my small hand in his. When we got to Mom's hospital room, she was awake in a large bed and there were bandages on her head and I could see fresh stitches going down her upper arm from where the sleeve of her hospital gown didn't quite reach. the doctors said she had a concussion and large gashes here and there but for the most part she was fine. Dad just started crying when he got there and just ran towards her, dragging me along with him. I just yelled "Mama!" when I saw her. She was just trying to calm my dad down as he kept repeating how glad he was that she was ok and how scared he was. I kept trying to hop up onto the bed, she laughed a little as I did, and she kissed my head saying that she was alright and helped me up on the bed as best as she could with her injuries. Even though I was so young at the time, I couldn't help but feel like something was wrong even as I saw my mother right in front of me, alive. I slid down the bed when I remembered why she was out in the first place, thinking that they were hiding somewhere. I remember checking under the bed and around the hospital room, opening various cabinets and such as a child does when they're looking for something-or someone. My dad looked over after he composed himself and noticed that I was inspecting every inch of the room, leaving nothing unturned. He asked what I was looking for in that voice that parents always use when they have their hands on their knees to meet you at their level. I turned around after looking through a cabinet about my size, full of random medical equipment, I could easily have fit inside and still had some room to move around if there was nothing inside. I tilted my head to the side before I said two simple words, I had no idea of the emotional turmoil that would ensue once I spoke.
"Where's Muichiro?"

My mother's teal eyes were fixated on the blankets in front of her and she held her bandaged head in her hand which was littered with little cuts, she must've been in a lot of pain, but if she felt it in that moment, she didn't show it. My parents had both frozen on the spot once the words left my mouth and my dad had turned wild eyed toward my mother waiting for an answer. she said she had no idea and that's when she realized she could hardly remember anything that had transpired that day, before ending up in the hospital.
