Basil had finished up with the decorating when he heard a faint running in the distance. Basil glanced towards the window, towards the mountains.

"Lovely.."

Basil grabs his notebook and sits down to his old table, turning on his lamp before opening the book to the first page.

His mother thought it would be a great idea for him to start a diary. Basil knew his mom has one and she wrote in it every night.  It was pretty  but she appeared to adore that little book.

She would always advocate for him to write his thought in one, so he took her advice. However, unlike her, he had no idea on how to start. His life was not that exciting.

Suddenly, he heard something drop behind him. Basil quickly got up, grabbing his lamp and thrusting the light towards were the noise came from.

In the corner of the room the broom had been knocked over. It was just his imagination.

" Hah, hah, very funny. "  Basil chuckles, going to sit back down when he headed a voice right behind him.

" Very funny indeed. "

Basil turns towards the noise and there in the room was a witch in the from door frame. Well, what he guessed as they had pointy-looking hat in the shadow.

Basil had never met a witch before, but it look like one in picture descriptions in the library.

Quickly, he backed up, unsure on what to do.  The lamp in his hands went out, leaving him partially in the dark.

Only the front door light from the moon lit of the room. That was short lived as door slammed shut. Basil quickly backed into the wall, unable to speak.

" Such a funny child you are. "

The pitch of the voice slightly changed.

" What are we going to do with them? "

 " We could kill them."

 " No. "

Again, the voice kept shifting in tone.

Basil was confused for a second before realizing this wasn't real. He had these weird dreams of others who he didn't know.

" This is just a dream. You're not real. "  Basil tells in the darkness, trying to find the ' Witch ' but he could only see blackness." cut it out. "

" Will this hurt him? ####"

The voice said a name, but he couldn't make it out. Basil head started to hurt. He had to wake up. In Basil's anxious haze, something grabbed him, hauling him towards a face of glowing eyes.

" He's coming.."

Basil quickly pushed the figure away and shuffled under what he guessed was the table. Quickly coving his head and trying to drift into sleep like he usually does in his dreams.

Trying to ignore the whispers around him.

=====

It was later Basil cracked open one of his eyes to see it was morning. Slowly crawling out, Basil was revealed it was just one of his silly dreams.

" I wonder if I work more in the day, I wouldn't dream.."

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, before someone slowly opened it and it appeared to be his mother.

Thea looked at him, clearly worried as he was still on the floor, shocked to see his mom visiting so soon.  It was only the first night.

"Dear, are you alright?" His mothers asks, rushing over to help him up off the floor. Basil was trying to come up with a idea, not to worry his mom.

"Dropped my pencil." Basil says, noticing his pencil was one the floor, must of feel off last night in his nightmare state, luckily for him.

" Hm, okay.."  Thea didn't seem like she trust him but she didn't push. " I came here to offer to make you some breakfast. If you like to of course."

"I plan to fish something up. You can try if you like? " Basil goes over to the well used enchanted fishing rod on the side of the room before handing it to his mother, who took it from him, then grabbed one of the fishing rods that came with the house.

"Well, I love to try. My farming stuff is already done. "

"Don't worry, you will be totally be a pro." Basil finally smiled, as he lead his mother out the door. Fishing would totally get his mind off everything.

His mother wasn't a pro.  Even with Luck of the sea, she mostly caught junk, surprisingly...

She failed multiple catches and almost fell into the river three times. Basil, despite cringing at her throwing the hook out-Almost catching him few times mind you- she was appearing to be enjoying herself.

Basil liked seeing his mother happy.

"I'm not too good at this but I'm enjoying my time with you, dear. " Thea kicked her feet back and forth as the swing over the moving  water below," I might keep the bowl I caught."

" An old bowl in the river down seem sanitary. " Basil had removed his shoes, allowing them to cool as he copied his mother feet swinging.

"Not eating out of it, just keeping as a keepsake. " Thea smiles, "Memories are important to remember you know. "

"  I guess..." Basil shrugs, reeling in his rod slightly, watching the bobber bob slowly. " You're right." He then adds.

" Basil, can I ask you something? " Thea says out of the blue.

Basil slowly gets a feeling about what's it's about. Ah great. Basil just nods.

"Did you dream about that witch again?"

Basil was watching his bobber, but he could feel his mother eyes on him.  His mother already knew about this scary witch figure since he would crawled into her bed on usually stormy nights and cry to her about a scary witch.

"Yes."

"I knew it. Basil, if you every need bit of reassurance, I'm here. "

" I'm a grown up and grown ups down gets scared of nightmares. I'll get over it. " Basil misses a bit due to losing concentration, cursing quietly to himself.

"Everyone gets scared. " Thea began, but quickly stopped a Basil got a bit, quickly reeling and flicking up a large trout, which happens to land on his mother, scaring her.

Thea yelped, tossing her rod on accident in the water and falling backward to toss the fish towards the shore.

Basil started to laugh, seeing his mother's face as she looked a shade darker in the face. Clearing embarrassed.

"Guess you're right, mom. Adults do get scared. "

His mother just glares at him but then sits up to notice the rod floating down the river," I'm sorry, Basil."

Basil notices what his mom is talking about, quickly getting up.  " Don't worry, I'll go get it.  There a part just up ahead that it tapers bit, so I can reach it. "

"Let me come!" Thea says, but Basil shakes his head, " I know this river better. Besides, could you bring my fish up to the house. I won't be long."

"Basil, I- " Thea gets up, wanting to help, but he seems to be fine. She watches him disappear into the bush before going to retrieve the fish.
