"If I kiss you now, I'll take you here and now, so I'll continue to talk," he said in a crooning voice.

"I know." Her thumb and forefinger played with his chin as she noted, again, how strong and sexy he was. Why was everything in him so sexy?

"I still have to tell you everything I went through after I promised myself I will never approach you until I feel you can deal with me. I mean—before I saw you with that ugly prick by the side of the road and all good intentions left me."

She giggled again, knowing already that he got jealous of Ruel. "Ugly? Ruel's not ugly."

"So you think he's handsome, huh?" he asked in a highly threaten-ing voice that made her giggle all the more.

"Not as handsome as you, but passable," she managed to answer when she recovered. "C'mon, Eric. He made an effort. He serenaded me, visited me even if he was tired minding his family's store in town during the day, and even found a way to see me after you've imposed that curfew."

"Is that all?" His voice was suddenly cold. "I passed by your house every single night since that first night, waiting for a chance to catch a glimpse of you when you closed your windows. I couldn't let you see me because I was so afraid I traumatized you that night that I'd only scare you more. You did freeze up like a statue that day on the side of that road. I drove away before you could faint right there and give that prick a chance to touch you and be a hero for rescuing you."

His tone was so derisive she snickered, then was surprised at the sound she made, so she giggled again.

"So now it's all funny? Did you know how worried I was of you then?"

It was so hard to control her fit of laughter, but she managed so she could talk. "I was thinking of running away with my mother and my brother that day because I... I thought at first that you really believed I was a whore and would kick me out of the hacienda. Then Mama would find out. I was frantically making plans to run. But then... you took me from the road and brought me back to your house where my supposed traumatic experience happened," she continued, rolling her eyes at him.

"Yes. And feeling already bad about what I did in the morning... and dirty because of what you might think of me... I kissed you, and I did it all again." Even though they both knew how well that actually turned out, she saw guilt marring the handsomeness of his face.

"I didn't fight you off," she reminded him quietly.

"Believe me, if you had pushed me away even just a little..."

She laughed, but it was a soft laugh. "You already know I can't ever do that like I couldn't stop breathing..."

He stared at her face, his eyes dark with adoration and desire. "Oh god... say something like that again and I'd take you here, on the ground. And not even a lightning storm can stop me."

She smirked. "You know how clear the skies are right now."

He moaned. "I promised you we will talk."

She nodded. "I know. So..." She took a deep breath to calm herself. "The... the medical exams, the pregnancy test..."

He grimaced as he closed his eyes in embarrassment. "You saw that, too?"

She nodded. "I was suspicious by then, but I just couldn't accept the possibility that you already know because of the obvious consequences I truly believed was just waiting to happen."

He opened his eyes and apologetically gazed at her. "I didn't use protection and it was your first time. I had to be sure I hadn't ruined your life more than I felt I already have."
