It was a late afternoon, one where the sun was streaming through the curtains of Onika and Beyoncé's shared apartment. It was Sunday, which meant that the couple was more than happy to spend the evening indoors and enjoy each other's presence within the comfort of their place. Beyoncé was somewhere in the kitchen, humming "River Deep" as she prepared honey scented tea, one of her guilty pleasures that she put her girlfriend on. She was completely unaware of the nosey Onika who decided to rummage through one of her vintage burgundy boxes that kept calling her name from the other side of the bedroom.

Onika grabbed the prized box and sat cross-legged on the floor, while hastily sneaking a glance towards her unaware girlfriend who joyously prepared their afternoon snacks. After making sure that she was on her own, she let her curiosity get the best of her as she pulled it out. She didn't know what was awaiting her as she let her mind run through all the possible things that Giselle might've hidden from her, perhaps some unfinished songs, some forgotten pair of shoes, or some rare collection of sunglasses, for she knew of her secret obsession with those. But what she found instead stopped her breath short.

The box was filled with lettersdozens of them, all creatively folded and shaped like some of their favorite vintage movies or old books, some yellowed with age, some dating back to their high school years due to the school's envelopes also being there, others crisp and new, as if they had been written just yesterday. Her hands trembled as she grazed back and forth between the roses haphazardly thrown in the box and the handwritten pages, as if daring them to open themselves up and showing her what were they about.

"Baby! Tea is almost ready!" Beyoncé called from the kitchen, her voice light and carefree.

Onika hesitated, her heart pounding in her chest. Should she open them? These letters, they felt private, even if they were written to her. They felt personal, as if she was about to peer into a deeper part of Beyoncé's soul that had remained untouched and unraveled, even by her. But her need to know overcame most of her senses, and soon she found herself unfolding the first letter.

"My Dearest Tanya,

I don't think I'll ever have the courage to give you this letter, but writing it feels like the closest way to that, as well as to make sense of what I'm feeling. You've been haunting my every thought, and living rent free in my head, you've instilled yourself within me. You've become a part of me in ways I never thought possible. Sometimes, I'm terrified by how deeply you've touched my heart, and by how fast I've fallen for you. A part of me keeps you at bay now, for I don't know how to look you in the eyes without giving myself away. Sometimes, my foolish heart wonders if yours ever feels the same. I am terrified to ask, terrified to know the answer, terrified of the possibility of rejection, terrified of the slim chance of you returning my feelings, and even more terrified of the vulnerability that comes with loving someone so deep. I am in love with you, I love you, you haunt me. Do I ever haunt you?"
