"Tell Her I'm Sorry."
Onika.
I smoothened the hems of my bridal dress, humming to the music that was softly playing outside. I wasn't nervous per se, but I felt odd... Like something was off, yet everything was perfectly fine. I took a deep breath in, as I heard the door to my room opening.
"Wow... You look breathtaking, baby." I heard my father say, and I softly smiled at the genuineness of his words. "Thank you, papa." He came up behind me, as he adjusted the crown on my head, while planting a gentle kiss on it, making me close my eyes as I savored the moment.
"Are you ready?" He asked me.
"Almost." I whispered, as I felt my nerves coming back up, in full force. "I'm... feeling off." I stated out loud, making him furrow his brows at me. "I don't know why... but maybe I'm just tripping."
"No, babygirl. I always told you to never doubt your intuition. If you feel as if something is off, I will go double check everything out right now to ease your mind." He said, and I thanked him as I watched him go do that.
The moment he closed the door behind him, I staggered backwards as I felt my heart skipping several beats. I rubbed my chest as I took several slow breaths, trying to ease the rising anxiety within me. This can't be good. Something is wrong, something is happening, and I need to find it out.
The moment I reached for the doorknob, it opened, revealing a grim looking Papa. "What's wrong? What happened?" I asked him worriedly, and he pursed his lips together as he avoided my gaze.
I couldn't take his silence anymore. I tried to walk past him to go find out myself, but he held me back before I could get out there. "I don't think you going out there is a good idea, babygirl." He softly said, as his arms tightened around me. "You might need to sit down for this." He added.
I looked into his eyes, seeing how they lacked their gleam from earlier, and I knew that it had something to do with her, with us. "Okay." Was all I said, he loosened his hold on me, and I bolted out the door. "Onika, no!" Was all I heard, before I took off even faster.
The moment I neared the church's door, I found everyone standing there in a tense silence. They were all stumped, not knowing what to say I bet, as they stared at one piece of paper stuck on the white door. Solange was the first one to notice me, and she did everything not to look me in the eyes.
My feet felt heavy as I dragged them towards the door. The more I neared it, the more I could make out the words on the paper. The more they became clearer, the more I've lost my breath. It can't be. No, Beyoncé wouldn't do this to me. My hands shook as I softly traced the written words. "Tell her I'm sorry."
And everything went blank.
