~Ryan~
Ryan, lying in a hospital bed, knew he was not in a typical hospital both from the chatter that he overheard out in the hall and from what he remembered of the lady saying to him, "You will be safe at the facility. Do you want to go?". This memory was incredibly vague as he was in a battle to stay conscious at the time. He continues to think back to that day. He wants to piece together what had happened to him and how he was injured, but nothing he can remember makes any sense to him. He began to talk to himself.
Ok, think Ryan, what exactly do you remember...
I remember waking up from a deep sleep somewhere familiar, but the world around me was falling apart. The sky was raining fire. An active war on the streets. People were screaming and crying out.
Ok, that was probably a nightmare. Stuff like this does not happen in real life. Not my life anyway- so what else do I remember....
Ok, then I remember...ummmm...
I woke up with a lady crouched down next to me. Seemingly unaffected by what was going on around them. Her only focus was on him and whatever team she mentioned she was talking to via an earpiece. She looked military but spoke like a civilian, relaxed even as if at home talking to friends. None of which made any sense to him. He remembered not being able to follow the conversation. Ok, maybe that was a dream too. She was wearing happy colors, not military colors. Maybe some sort of parade or something...
Ok, that was definitely a dream too. Had to be. Ok, keep thinking...
Where the hell am I?
Don't panic, just think.
His mind went back to the lady. She would ask him strange things like how long He had been back and what year he thought it was. He remembers being confused and not having many answers to give her. She seemed to expect that. Like this was something she was used to.
There has to be a logical explanation for all of this. Maybe it was a parade, like the 4th of July, and fireworks, which would also explain the noises, and maybe I suffered a concussion, and the lady was in the parade but also a nurse or something as an occupation. That would explain things logically, right? Ok, so when, July.. Maybe, what year and where? Well, those are more questions I should know the answers to, but I don't. Concussion, yes, a concussion would explain all that.
His mind went back to the conversation he had with the lady. He closed his eyes to visualize his memories so he could remember more.
"What's happening?" He remembers asking.
"The apocalypse." She said in a matter-of-fact tone. Then she asked, "Are you a believer?"
"Yes". Explosions became louder and closer, but he couldn't see what was happening, his eyes burned and were beginning to swell shut.
