"Ms. Valdez, you're late!" The words pierced through me, and I mentally scolded myself for my tardiness as I hurried to apologize to our notoriously strict professor, eager to join the class.
"Why is today testing my luck?" I mused inwardly, feeling exasperated by the series of unfortunate events.
Making my way to my seat, I caught Xyrine, one of my closest friends, calling out to me. True to her mischievous nature, she couldn't resist a chuckle at my expense.
Sliding into the chair beside her, I couldn't resist but retort, "What's so amusing?" My words tinged with a touch of boredom and irritation. She giggled at my reaction and teased, "Girl, you need to chill. Anyways, have you seen the latest gossip in the group chat?" Excitement laced her voice.
"Huh? What group chat?" I replied, a hint of confusion in my tone.
"OMG! You're missing out on so much," she exclaimed, her excitement palpable before our professor's scolding interrupted her.
"Ms. Ferrer and Ms. Valdez! This is your final warning. One more disruption, and you're out of this class," our professor's stern voice echoed in the room. We exchanged silent glances, feeling the weight of embarrassment settling over us.

After the class ended, Xyrine yanked me from my seat. I couldn't help but wonder what antics she was up to this time.
"Hey, hold on! I'm not finished packing," I protested.
"Forget that, this is more important," she insisted.
"Are you sure?" I hesitated.
"Yes, it's about your favorite artist - the low-key one with a mesmerizing voice, just like yours."
My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. I couldn't recall ever being linked to any artist-related controversy. Besides, my latest song has been gaining a decent number of streams. Yes, I am indeed the small artist she's talking about.
"Alright, so what's the deal?" I inquired.
"Well, word on the street is that she's being accused of being an art thief!" Xyrine dropped the bombshell, leaving me stunned. Me? An art thief? The very idea seemed preposterous.
