Lan wangji and lan xichen called by his father  in hanshi for tea. They normally spend time together in hanshi.
If they called without Wei ying, means discussion is about  Jiangs, so they both went hanshi without raising suspicion of Wei ying.

He knows his father and shifu has shocked expression but his brother has amusement in his eyes.

Lan wangji kneel down in front of them.
Shifu, I want to ask your permission to court your son wei ying.... Lan wangji said with sincerity.

Lan qiren choked on his tea. He knows there is something between his son and wangji. But he didn't know wangji come this early for  courting, may be discussion of jiang  gave him courage to do this step. Or may be because after wei ying introduced as third jade, he may get proposal from different sects. Lan wangji want to make wei ying as his. This will safe wei ying from sect politics .
