Alex could not stop thinking about the strange encounter, from that chilly evening. Something about this woman gave her whole body goosebumps. But Alex had felt such an odd connection between them for just a second.

Days went by as a killer struck again four times. Even the Metropolitan police department was in mourning because a police officer was recently murdered. It had not just been any police officer; he was a detective working on the case. His name was R. Jenkins, so they named the case after him to honour him. Rumours are that he got way too close to discovering the killer's identity. But the evidence was not gained legally, so no one took it seriously. And just hours later he was murdered. Even though there was a chance that Alex might be targeted as the next victim, Alex was not going to give up. These families needed justice, just like her mom once did.

Alex was just getting an iced chai Frappuccino on her way to work when she received a closed envelope with her name written in elegant handwriting, from the employee at the cafe.

Alex went outside, confused because no one ever left letters for her at her regular coffee place.

She sat down on a bench in the park where she always went for a run. She decided to open the letter.

It read: Dear Alex,

I hope this letter finds you well. I want to apologise for communicating like this, but it felt necessary to reach out to you in this way. You see I've been watching you for some time now, and I'm very intrigued by your skills as a detective. But I would love to get to know the woman behind the badge.

I know that this letter may seem sudden, but I feel myself drawn to you in many ways I can't even explain. I believe my information could be extremely helpful in your case. We would make great allies and maybe even more. I suggest that we meet at 8 pm tonight in the park where you always go for a run.

Given the circumstances of how we came to know each other, I understand if you're wary of meeting with me. But I promise you, there's nothing dark behind my intentions. I simply wish to get to know you better, to see if there's a possibility for us to work together.

Yours Maya Sinclair

So Alex was right all along. Maya had indeed been watching her.

But she can't deny the underlying sense of excitement that bubbles within her despite her reservations. There's something about Maya's words that resonates with her on a deeper level, a feeling of connection that she can't quite explain. She's drawn to Maya's confidence and charisma, intrigued by the possibility of allying with someone who seems to understand her in ways she never thought possible.

As she sits on the bench in the park, the cool breeze rustling through the trees, Alex weighs her options carefully. Part of her is hesitant to trust Maya, wary of the unknown dangers beneath the surface. But another part of her is curious to learn more about this mysterious woman who has captured her attention completely. Alex decides to go because she can definitely use some distraction from the Jenkins case. She had never seen that many individuals murdered bodies in one week. There is no pattern, the only thing that keeps returning is the killer's trademark. A white lily is always left near the body. The choice of the white lily is symbolic, its meaning means purity and innocence combined with the horrible crime of these homicides. The killer's precise arrangement of the flower serves as a haunting reminder of their presence and their twisted fascination with the concept of beauty amidst brutality.

This has kept the METPD busy for weeks. All detectives are saying that it's harder than solving a cold case. But Alex keeps hoping.

After another day of trying to solve the case, it's finally time to meet up with Maya. As Alex arrives at the park, she spots Maya waiting for her, her silhouette illuminated by the soft glow of the setting sun. There's a nervous energy in the air as they approach each other, both women unsure of what to expect from this encounter. Maya offers a hesitant smile, her eyes betraying a hint of vulnerability beneath her confident exterior.

Maya has carefully crafted her narrative, weaving together a web of half-truths and carefully constructed lies to conceal her true identity as a serial killer. She's also scared that Alex will see right through her mask.

As Maya and Alex settle onto the park bench, Maya takes a moment to observe Alex, her gaze lingering on the detective's features with a mix of curiosity and admiration.

Maya: "You know, Detective Pierce, I've been following your work on the Jenkins case. Quite impressive, I must say."

Alex's interest is piqued, her eyes narrowing slightly as she regards Maya.

Alex: "What exactly do you know about the Jenkins case?"

Maya offers a sly smile, her lips curling into a smirk.

Maya: "Let's just say I have my sources. And I know almost just as much as you do. But enough about me. I have some information that might interest you."

Alex's curiosity gets the better of her as Maya begins to share details about the case, weaving together a narrative that's equal parts truth and deception.

Maya: "It seems there's a connection between the recent string of murders and a series of unsolved crimes from several years ago. The victims all share a similar profile, leading me to believe that we may be dealing with a initiate experienced killer."

Alex's eyes widen in surprise, her mind racing as she processes Maya's words.

Alex: "That's... unexpected. Do you have any leads?"

Maya nods, her expression serious as she leans in closer to Alex.

Maya: "I have a few theories, but I'll need your help to confirm them. I believe we can catch this killer, Alex, but we'll have to work together if we want to bring them to justice."

Their conversation takes a more serious turn as Maya shares her insights into the case, her words tinged with a sense of urgency and determination. But beneath the surface, there's a simmering tension between them, a spark of attraction threatening to ignite into something more.

As the night wears on and the park falls silent around them, Maya and Alex find themselves drawn closer together, their voices growing softer as they discuss the complexities of the case. And at that moment, amidst the darkness and uncertainty, a flicker of something more begins to burn between them, a fire that neither can deny.

But even as they lose themselves in the heat of the moment, a shadow looms in the dark, threatening to tear them apart. Little do they realise the dangerous game they're playing, as Maya's true intentions remain hidden behind her mask.

As the night wore on, Maya couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt gnawing at her conscience. She knew that she was playing a dangerous game with Alex, but she couldn't deny the intoxicating pull she felt towards the detective. Maya had always been proud of herself for her ability to keep her emotions low, distance her feelings, and focus on her mission. But with Alex, it was different. Something about the detective stirred a long-forgotten longing within Maya, a desire to connect with someone on a deeper level than she ever thought would be possible.

Meanwhile, Alex returned to her cosy apartment, her mind swirling with thoughts of Maya and all the possibilities ahead. She knew collaborating with Maya would be risky and that trusting her could lead to unforeseen consequences. But as Alex lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was on the verge of a breakthrough, that Maya held the key to unlocking the secrets of the case once and for all.
