Mauritius sat alone in his office, the room dimly lit by a single lamp on his desk.

His mind was a whirlwind of confusion and conflicting emotions.

The recent events, including Violet's heroic actions, had stirred something within him that he couldn't quite understand.

The fierce protectiveness and the depth of his feelings for Violet left him unsettled.

He was a man accustomed to control and calculation, but the emotions Violet evoked in him were uncharted territory.

As Mauritius wrestled with his thoughts, the office door creaked open, and in walked Dorothy Hudson.

Her entrance was calm and composed, her demeanor betraying none of the tension that had been building between them.

She had been a thorn in Mauritius’s side for far too long, and their meeting was inevitable.

“Dorothy,” Mauritius greeted her coolly, his voice betraying none of the inner turmoil he felt.

“What brings you here?”

Dorothy’s eyes glinted with a mix of triumph and disdain.

“Mauritius, always a pleasure. I’m here to discuss the state of affairs between us.

It seems things are becoming quite... interesting.”

Mauritius’s expression hardened. “Interesting? Your manipulations have caused enough chaos. What is it you want now?”

Dorothy’s smile was cold and calculating. “Just a little conversation.

You see, I’ve always admired your drive and your ability to control those around you.

But it’s clear that you’re struggling with something.

I couldn’t resist seeing it for myself.”

Mauritius’s jaw clenched. “This isn’t a game, Dorothy. You’re playing with lives.”

Dorothy’s gaze softened, though it was clear she was far from sincere.

“Oh, Mauritius, don’t be so serious.

Life is a game, and you’re just a player like the rest of us. But let’s not dwell on that.

Let’s talk about Violet.”

The mention of Violet’s name made Mauritius stiffen.

“What about her?”

Dorothy’s smile widened. “I hear she’s quite the asset. A fierce protector, wouldn’t you say? But I wonder—does she know what kind of man you truly are?”

Mauritius’s eyes narrowed.

“What are you implying?”

Dorothy took a step closer, her voice dropping to a whisper.

“I know you’re confused about her. You think you’re in control, but your feelings for her are clouding your judgment.

It’s amusing to see someone like you so...

vulnerable.”

Mauritius’s temper flared. “You know nothing about what’s happening inside me. Leave her out of this.”

Dorothy’s expression turned cold again. “Oh, but she’s very much a part of it.

You see, Mauritius, your emotions are a weakness. And weakness is something I can exploit.”

Mauritius rose from his desk, his eyes blazing with fury. “Get out. I won’t tolerate your games any longer.”

Dorothy’s smile was almost pitying.

“Very well. But remember, Mauritius, everyone has a price, and even you aren’t immune to it.

I’ll be watching.”

As Dorothy turned to leave, Mauritius’s mind was left reeling.

The confrontation had only intensified his inner conflict about Violet.

He had always prided himself on his ability to remain detached and unemotional, but Violet’s presence had shattered that facade.

As the door closed behind Dorothy, Mauritius sank back into his chair, his thoughts consumed by the turmoil Dorothy had stirred.

His feelings for Violet were becoming increasingly difficult to ignore, and the weight of his emotions threatened to unseat the control he had always relied on.
