Scene 1:
Head hurts. Feels like I've been out for hours. Daylight outside. Civilian clothing. Was out on patrol last night so only conclusion is I've awoken in somebody else's body. Unfamiliar surroundings. Median-income residential property. Inner city location judging by traffic noise and urbanisation.
Calendar on fridge has an address and time circled in red. No company name or contact. Indications are it's for an important appointment but they don't know who I am. Good. Means I don't have to worry about working undercover. Can relax and be natural for a while at least. Best to show up to this appointment. Continue day as planned before I jumped into this body then figure out a way to get back. Have to assume this world doesn't have a Justice League. Either way, best to avoid them for now. Heh...guess this world isn't so different to mine after all. Have to be careful with these temporal shifts. They can be quite tricky sometimes.
Scene 2:
Voice actor. That seems to be my host's occupation. New job. Casting director seems to be friendly enough. Writer and director also present. Script seems to be for a morning cartoon based on a masked vigilante and his rogues gallery. Strange. Main character also called 'Bruce' and dresses like a bat. I think I can pull this off.
Co-worker arrives. Nice fellow. Casually dressed. Introduces himself to me. Name's Mark. I ask him what else he's been in. He looks at me and smiles. "You're a funny guy, Kevin." Must have taken what I said as sarcasm. He must be a big deal. Will investigate later.
Scene 3:
The recording session begins. Thankfully they provide a script. The action is exhilarating, like living it all again. Mark sounds uncannily like Him. His voice and mannerisms while he acts...he could have even fooled me. We read our lines back and forth to each other. Pretend-fighting on the rooftops of Gotham as I foil another insane plan of His. I feel the adrenaline rush just as I always do. At the end the team auditioning us confer with each other before smiling and telling us we've got the job. We exchange pleasantries before leaving. Now it's time for me to really get to work.
Scene 4:
As I leave the building I see Mark smoking a cigarette. I go over to say goodbye before going back to my apartment. Suddenly his voice changes.
"Well, Bats. Good job in there. Looks like we'll be doing this again real soon."
I feel my body tense, fists clenched as I ready myself for anything.
"Oh relax. You don't really think we're going to do that here do you?"
"How did you do this, Joker?" I ask.
"Oh please? Do you really think I could pull something like this off? No, this is someone else's work let me assure you. But I do like their sense for the theatrical."
"How do we get back?"
"No idea. Besides, who says I want to?"
"I do."
"Now now, my newly-anointed thespian friend. What would people think of you pummelling poor Mark here to the floor in public? He's a national treasure, don't you know? No, that simply wouldn't do. Anyhoo, I feel like our stay here will be short-lived anyway."
"Then why bring us here in the first place?"
"Who knows my rumbunctious raconteur? What I do know is that you played a blinder back there. Could have fooled even the Clown Prince of Crime himself if you weren't dressed like some jobbing actor. But of course, that's what you are. Or at least, what...err...what's his name again? Ah yes, Kevin. Kevin here, thanks to you, now has gainful employment playing you in this reality. Hooray. Now what use this is in the grand scheme of things, who can say? But it seems that was the purpose of this little jaunt which you and I took. So, mission accomplished. The Eagle has landed. Hooray for Hollywood."
Suddenly a cloud of dust begins to spiral around us, growing stronger and stronger with each passing second.
"Ah, this must be our ride home. Well, nice meeting you, 'Kevin'. Wink. Wink. Looks like it's back to the ol' nine to five for us. And off we go..."
