August 31st, 2022, 11:55 pm. Deku's POV:

As a child, I used to frequently contemplate the idea of heroes. I often found myself wondering if heroes truly walked among us. When I turned to adults for answers, they would often describe heroes as people who willingly put their own lives at risk to save others. In the minds of children, heroes are often associated with extraordinary abilities like flying, shooting lasers from their eyes, super strength, and the power to break through walls. Our view of heroes is often shaped by real-life role models such as police officers, firefighters, and doctors. Given these considerations, I can't shake the feeling that my perspective closely parallels that of a child's.

Since I can remember, I've held onto an unwavering yearning to become a hero – not just an ordinary hero, but the kind that can only exist within one's wildest dreams. My mind has always been brimming with elaborate visions of possessing extraordinary abilities: being able to effortlessly climb walls, leap great heights with agility, and possess the sheer strength to obliterate a boulder with a single powerful strike. However, I am keenly aware of the colossal gap between fantasy and reality. In the world I inhabit, such incredible powers are completely unachievable. It's a world that I long to surpass.

I am an avid fan of MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) games, finding them to be incredibly engrossing. These virtual worlds offer me an escape from the daily grind of real life. Within these realms, I can assume the role of a hero, saving lives, amassing power, embarking on thrilling quests, and even experiencing the excitement of a romantic narrative with the female lead character. The contrast with my actual life is striking; in reality, I am just a typical 14-year-old boy living with my mother and attending school. While in the virtual world, I am a hero, in real life, I tend to keep a low profile. I'm not involved in any school clubs and lack close friends. I haven't quite mustered the confidence to pursue a romantic relationship. However, I am content as long as my mother is happy. After my father departed years ago, it became my mission to ensure my mother's happiness. Following years of being her pillar of support, she surprised me on my 14th birthday.

As I returned home from the Supermarket, carrying the bags of flour and sugar my mom had asked for, I carefully set them down on the kitchen counter before heading to my room. To my astonishment, I was greeted by an unexpected sight when I reached my bed.

I was completely shocked when I saw the NerveGear resting on my bed. This state-of-the-art gadget had taken the world by storm, completely selling out in stores and online within days of its release. My amazement was interrupted when my mom unexpectedly burst out of my closet with a confetti cannon, nearly giving me a heart attack, and cheerfully wishing me a happy birthday. When I asked her how she managed to get the NerveGear, she confessed that she had noticed my interest in the device through the various tabloids and magazines on my desk. Intrigued, she had preordered it, unaware that it would come with a beta version of the highly anticipated game, My Hero Online.
